Blue sarees for Jaffna teachers!

The zonal education director’s office has distributed blue-coloured sarees for teachers in the north to wear at a function to be held tomorrow (13) at Nelliadi in Jaffna with the participation of the president. The zonal education director has instructed every school to reduce the cost of the sarees from the salaries of these teachers. Expressing their opposition to this, the teachers say that they do not need blue-coloured sarees, and that they strongly oppose the reduction of the cost of the sarees forced on them from their salary.

In addition, the Army is collecting Rs. 1,000 from each shop and small businessmen at Nelliadi, purportedly to whitewash the walls in the area. Even unwillingly, they have given the money, as they fear harassment from the Army.
