JHU sends a letter of demand to Premier demanding Rs 1 B

The legal officer of the Jathika Hela Urumaya Tudor Perera has sent a letter of demand to Prime Minister (PM) D.M. Jayaratna demanding Rs 1 billion for defamation caused to Party Leader Ven. Omalpe Sobhita Thera.

If the PM fails to pay the compensation within 14 days, the JHU lawyer said that he will go to courts against the PM for not paying it.

The letter of demand was sent via registered post to the PM’s office this morning, the JHU spokesperson Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe told Ceylon Today Online.

UPFA PS member assaults UNPer’s son
A Padiyatalawa Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) member, of the ruling United People Freedom Alliance (UPFA), was arrested by the police for assaulting a son of a United National Party (UNP) member of the PS.

Police media unit said, the assault was due to an alleged love affair between the UNP member's son and the daughter of the UPFA member.

The 17-year-old victim was admitted to the Padiyatalawa Hospital.

The UPFA politician surrendered to the Police yesterday morning.
