Ruhunu students take to the streets against attacks by govt. thugs

An agitation was carried out by students of Ruhuna University protesting against the attack on a group of students by thugs nurtured by the government on the 31st December and the 1st January and the failure of the university authorities or police to take action regarding the incident.
A student activist said the government carried out the attack to bring discredit to university students and to plant the view in the society that university students were thugs and an irresponsible lot. He said the government is engaged in such campaigns at present.
He said several thug students who have been placed by the government inside the university and government thugs from outside have carried out the attack on students and three students injured in the attack had to be hospitalized he pointed out.
The students express their vehement displeasure regarding the failure of university authorities and the police to take action regarding the incident.
