The UN secretary-general has once again called on Sri Lanka to investigate the allegations of war crimes during the last stages of war against the Tamil Tigers. But in an apparent change of tone, Ban ki-Moon has stressed the need for a “credible national accountability process,” the UN news centre said. The call has come during a meeting with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in New York. “The Secretary-General reiterated the need for a credible national accountability process as envisaged in the joint statement of 23 May 2009,” the UN statement said.
