CB Bonds and the Buddha's Truths

In this land like no other, we either deal with all, the Presidents' men or all the Premiers' men. And that's not meant to mean anything it should not mean! What you just imagined is the truth. We agree.

You and I know what's what with all these 'nice' men whether they come from Colombo schools or the village schools, whether they trade in crooked bank bond issues or in river sand rackets. And they all fall foul of the law because they would not think on the Buddha's advice that the trouble is that you think you still have time. Time ran out on them because they did not know whether to begin in the scams or once begun, to wade in deeper in the muck.
Time ran out on them…

One hopes it will run out on some VVIPs in the amazing CB Bonds scam which have had more Commissions investigating it perhaps than those which probed the rigging at our elections or even the holocaust.

Imagine anyone having over 700 calls with members of a family involved in any scam that at least gets your family a multi-million rupee state-of-the-art luxury flat in Colombo, besides other perpetually running treasures, and denying you know that family well? According to Sri Lanka's AG, time could be running out for these forgetful sons of the dirt: Must remember, not to refer to them as "sons of the soil". Many of us come from the soil: Others, from the gutters. Dirt sounds good.

Talking of SL's AG, Dappula de Livera, we know that his missive to the acting IGP came a few days after Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa revealed last Saturday that things are in the bag as far as getting former CB Governor Arjuna Mahendran down to Colombo, from Singapore, is concerned. That could mean that there's been a lot of discussion among many people about using strategies used in bringing in the LTTE's KP also from Singapore.  One of these bright days, we're going to have a god look at whether Mahendran has been in good health or not. One thing that's sure is that no one will disagree with us that on arrival in Katunayake, he will suddenly have a heart attack or perhaps the corona virus!

How the hearings in this case will proceed is anyone's good guess, this being the land like no other. Nothing in this world is not subject to change. During the tenure of Ranil Wickremesinghe's Government under which the Central Bank scourge exploded, came endless numbers of months through which all action was indefinitely postponed.

This time around, unless something is done very quickly, anything could happen at the General Election that will, either enable the Government to get a good hold on electoral victory or lose it and see the case dwell back into eternal postponement again under yet another RW Government. But what if the Sajith -led Samagi Jana Balawegaya comes to power under a broad alliance? That will almost certainly set the balls rolling for the CB scammers to get a long, long life in prison. Ranil Wickremesinghe told the Commission some time ago that the massive financial deception via the Bonds scam can be recovered, from the crooks after facts are ascertained, by some Commission or Court. That, to any man in sound control of his senses

Would mean that Wickremesinghe means to say that you can steal the State, restore the defrauded millions and smile yourself out of Court premises. That's it? Unless Sajith Pemadasa himself is not mentally unsound, he'd better know to do as S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike or Mahinda Rajapaksa did, take his following out of Wickremesinghe's UNP and set up his own independent election-winning party. Mahinda Rajapaksa did better than Bandaranaike perhaps, with his SLPP, reducing the UNP to a mere 34 out of 340 councils at the last Local Government election. Sajith Premadasa did greatly better going in for the Presidential stakes, with crowds that stunned the Opposition SLPP and SLFP.

What we will soon be seeing in Court therefore will not simply be a matter of some big time State-protected crooks stealing the people's money and getting away with it but a Court-based definition of the depths of immorality to which the UNP under RW let its people remain socially and politically acknowledged by society despite a reign of high treasonable corruption, vastly reducing any similar offences under the former regime's time.

The Court arguments and decision in the CB Bonds Case will hence be diametrically opposed to a mere conviction of State-entrenched crooks. It will open Sri Lanka's judicial intervention in the realms of political morality by a conviction of guilt that will be more succinctly in step with a legal definition of political moral corruption under the RW era of hallucinating 'Good Governance.'  It will vastly differ from any case of fraud in the private or even public sector that never comes to a continent's distance of the gravity of the financial fraud that has in it a Cabinet Minister, a bank governor and their relations and lackeys all rolled into one great State-protected cabal of liars and crooks. To date, this is what COPE, Commissions, PCOIs' and Court hearings have told us.

If Court makes immediate positive moves in this case before the General Election, it will enable wiping out the entity of what used to be the UNP that has been existing under the gross leadership of its most viciously repulsed leadership for the past 25 years.
