The convention commenced after the leader of the ITAK, Mavai Senathirajah hoisted the Party's flag. He mentioned about the Party's future political decisions during the convention.
He stated that although many have said that the TNA is fragmented and is deteriorating, the TNA is the Party of the Tamil people, therefore, it will never be separated from the people.
Senathirajah said on his opening remarks that the Party has been strong due to the long standing support extended by the people.
He said that the one thing which can be done to eliminate the misconceptions among the Sinhalese in the South regarding the TNA is to start a TNA political campaign in the areas where both Tamils and Sinhalese live.
Accordingly, the TNA has decided to appoint representatives for the upcoming elections from Colombo, Badulla and Nuwara Eliya Provinces.
Sumanthiran further said that the Tamil people in the North and East have been helpless due to the fact that no federal agreement has been signed within the country to protect the rights of the Tamil people.
