June 15, Colombo: A No Confidence Motion against Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran requesting his removal from the post has been handed over to Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray.

The no-confidence motion with signatures of 21 members in the 38-member Northern Provincial Council was reportedly handed over to the Governor last night.

The Chief Minister, on the recommendations made by a committee appointed to probe corruption, yesterday called for the resignation of Provincial Ministers of Education and Agriculture over corruption and fraud allegations.

Mr. Wigneswaran has asked NPC Education Minister T. Kurukularaja and Agriculture Minister P. Aingaranesan to hand over resignation letters by noon today.

The Chief Minister has also advised provincial ministers of land, health and fisheries ministers to take one month leave.

The signees to the no confidence motion have asked the governor to appoint the current chairman of the NPC Mr. K Sivagnanam as the next Chief Minister of the Northern Province,
