Will Kelaniya Campus address the real issues?

The vacation given to students of Kelaniya University has been extended further. The university was to be closed from April 26 to May 04 due to an infection at the university’s hostel, but it has now been extended until May 11.
When contacted, president of the university’s Students Union Nandana Sudesh Abesinghe had this to say,
“This problem arose on April 26 at the girls’ hostel. First the campus was closed claiming water was contaminated. Water tanks were cleaned by no sample was taken. Later, it was claimed as food poisoning. But, no clarification was given. We requested a meeting. But, there was no positive response. Later, what the management did was to issue a statement declaring the university out of bounds for students on the afternoon of the 28th. We make it clear that not only food poisoning, but many other serious issues prevail with regard to basic facilities, such as canteens, lavatories, hostels. All these affect students’ health. Authorities are avoiding these problems without giving proper solutions.”
Several attempts to reach Dr. Chaminda Abeysinghe who is in charge of students’ affairs for a comment failed.
