Mahipala gave orders to Navy extortion gang !
In the course of investigations into the abduction of schoolboys and Tamil youths for extortion, the CID has found that Sabaragamuwa chief minister Mahipala Herath has ordered the kidnapping and enforced disappearance of a youth from Kegalle district.
The Navy unit has followed his instructions.
Also, former DIG Vaas Gunawardena, who is sentenced to death, has had links with that extortion gang, it has been revealed.
The abducted Sinhala youth from Kegalle had been killed as the gang did not get extortion money. He, together with other schoolboys, had been kept at the secret torture site at the Trincomalee Navy camp.
Recently, a visiting UN working group of experts inspected this torture site.
Hijacked car at Welisara Navy camp
Meanwhile, yet another car that had been used to kidnap schoolboys, is reportedly being kept at the Welisara Navy camp. Last week, police seized a Wagon from the Trincomalee camp.
The CID is presently investigating only 11 complaints received by police. However, this Navy gang is accused of having abducted 28 youths. Only a few of them, who had given the extortion money, had been freed.
The information came to light after the national identity cards of the abducted youths were found from Sampath Munasinghe, the private assistant to former Navy commander Wasantha Karannagoda.
