MR to lose two thirds majority in parliament soon
- Saturday, 22 November 2014

Given the crossovers taking place from the government in the past few days, President Mahinda Rajapaksa is likely to lose his two thirds majority in parliament soon.
The governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had a total of 160 MPs in parliament last week.
However, the number has now been reduced to 151 MPs.
Interestingly, the defection of two more governing party MPs would result in the UPFA losing its comfortable two thirds majority held in parliament since 2010.
Following are the governing party members who have quit the government so far:
1. Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero
2. Patali Champika Ranawaka
3. Wasantha Senanayake
4. Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha
5. Maithripala Sirisena
6. Rajitha Senaratne
7. Duminda Dissanayake
8. M.K.D.S. Gunawardena
9. Perumal Rajathurai
