IGP to be ousted before presidential election

Rajapaksa administration, targeting the presidential election to be held next year, is making plans to transfer or forcefully retire state officials and senior officers of security services who are not amenable states a very reliable source. The first victim of this plan is to be the Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakone reveal these sources.
It is reported that the government is taking steps to get Mr. Illangakone retired. According to sources the reason for pressurizing Mr. Illangakone to retire is the unbiased action taken by him to control communal riots that were engineered at Aluthgama and Beruwala areas by communal groups that are active with the patronage of intelligence sections and taking measures to arrest those who were involved.
He is out of favour of Rajapaksa government as he opposed deploying police personnel for electioneering at the held Western and Southern PC elections and deploying police to suppress illegal businesses of government stalwarts.
The intention of the government that plans to get the IGP retired prematurely despite his term of office goes on till 2016 but extends for the third time the services of the DIG that orders police personnel to assault university students until their eyes pop out is very clear point out political analysts.
Former police spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody was forced to flee the country as he was pressurized not to be unbiased in performing his duties. The IGP had not been present when security chiefs were called to President’s House recently say reports.
CHOGM Chairperson stays at home

The Commonwealth Chairperson-in-Office Mahinda Rajapaksa did not attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games that commenced in Glasgow in Scotland on the 22nd. Mr. Rajapaksa was appointed as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Commonwealth at CHOGM held in Sri Lanka in November, last year.
Government ministers make controversial statements regarding the non participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Neomal Perera had told BBC that President Rajapaksa did not participate as his security was not adequate. However, Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who is in Scotland for the Games, has told BBC that President did not participate as he is getting ready for the Uva PC election.
The Chairperson-in-Office should participate in the official opening of the Commonwealth Games while the Queen participates as the head of the Commonwealth. This time only the Queen participated. More than 140 athletes and officials participated representing Sri Lanka.
