"Raise Your Voice through Women In Politics"
Thursday, 06 March 2014
Women's Forum for Democracy in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with other civil society organizations including the 'Antigone Team' and the Rights Now Collective for Democracy will organize a public discussion forum titled 'Raise Your Voice through Women in Politics' on Monday, 10th March 2014 2.00 pm on wards at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 7.
This public forum is organized to mark the International Women's Day which falls on 8th March.
Objective of the event is to influence the candidates of the upcoming provincial council elections on the issues elating to women's rights and gender equality. It is expected that this kind of open forum will strengthen links with Women Human Rights Defenders and Women politicians in Sri Lanka and eventually will lead to public institutions becoming more gender sensitive.
This forum will also be an opportunity for women candidates to share the experiences /hardships they have faced on their journey in to politics. Sri Lanka remains one of the few countries that have a very low representation of women in politics, despite the high literacy rates.
Organizers invite civil society organizations, women's rights advocates and general public to attend to the event. Simultaneous Interpretations will be provided. Those who are interested can obtain more details and confirm your participation by making a call to Chandima on +94-77-109 7912.
