Sufferings of Muslim Tsunami Victims; Nine years later today

The following article is from my book “Nobody’s People- The forgotten plight of Sri Lankan Muslims”. It is reproduced below to mark the ninth anniversary of tsunami which devastated the island on 26 December 2006.
Muslim population in the Ampara district were the worst affected. However the plight of most Muslim victims remains unchanged nine years later today ignored by the government and others.![]() |

Their main problem is lack f housing. With their appeals for better housing falling in deaf ears of all they continue to live in misery in temporary huts where they find it extremely difficult to live with grown up children.They have lost faith and confidence on all-the government and their own politicians who sold their souls for positions and perks. They are a deeply frustrated lot and do not know where to turn to or what to do.
