(Lanka-e-News-13.Nov.2013, 6.30PM) Sri Lanka President Medamulana MaRa who is going to be the chairman of the sublime Commonwealth summit in Colombo and therefore to hold aloft the Commonwealth’s rich traditions confirmed unequivocally the truth in the old maxim, a leech even when put in an elevated position in a silk bed will in keeping with its inherent and inborn foul traits seek only the filthy dust below , by releasing today a heroin peddler from prison acquitting and exonerating him of all the most grave and heinous charges under which he was detained , and sending him happily home .The accused who was so released by MaRa manipulation after discarding all the sacrosanct laws is Wedage Malith Dennis Perera who was taken into custody earlier with 8 kilos of heroin.
This heroin was imported from Pakistan to Sri Lanka along with a consignment of potatoes in 2010 , and was detected by the customs officers at Orugodawatte. The heroin trafficker Dennis Perera was also taken into custody along with the consignment. Later a case was filed in the Colombo High court against him as the prime suspect . Today , at noon when the high court judge Preethi Padman Surasena was about to hear this case , the attorney general (AG) Palitha Fernando informed court in writing that the case is being withdrawn against the massive heroin peddler because there is no evidence to indict the suspect. The high court judge accordingly released the suspect without uttering a word against it. At the same time the AG had sent copies of this letter to the Director ,Police crime investigation division and the OIC of the anti narcotics Bureau.
It is the consensus among the legal circles that the attorney general’s department has now become under bestial President Mahinda Rajapaksha who is a legal expert on jungle laws. Obviously the AG department is no longer independent.
The most vexatious question is , if this suspect is released on the ground that there is no evidence against him now , how come he was not released at the magistrate court level ? Isn’t it because the case was so grave and there was adequate evidence against the suspect that the case went up to high court ? Isn’t it therefore because the attorney general’s department has been transformed into another MaRa ‘s law ‘mockery general department’ that the AG suddenly released the suspect in this unholy haste ?
There is also another nefarious side to this amazing dispensation of (in)justice.
This same high court judge Surasena who today released the heroin trafficker arrested with 8 kilos heroin, keeping his mouth , eyes and ears shut , passed death sentence four months ago on a father of five children , a heroin addict who had just 4 grams of heroin in his possession. This judge who is noted for being very strict , similarly had passed death sentences on 17 heroin addicts . However this same buffoon of a judge like a bat that is blind and excretes through its mouth had no qualms about exonerating the heroin peddler Dennis Perera arrested with 8 kilos of heroin, of all charges and releasing him.
If an AG orders to release a suspect and withdraws the case , and if the judge has no option otherwise than that , it is most ugly and sordid however for a judge expected to adorn the bench rather than disgrace it to carry out that order like an inmate of a deaf and dumb Institution without uttering so much as a word against it in open court to justify his own action and suggest that he was instigated by AG’s order.
This lucky heroin peddler Wedage Malith Dennis Perera is none other than the son in law of former judge , former prisons commissioner and present chairman of the consumer authority, Rumi Marzook.
It is well to recall Medamulana MaRa had publicly and shamelessly declared many a time ‘apey minihek nam apey yuthukama eka beragenima’ ( if he is ‘our man’ it is our duty to rescue him) . MaRa and Rumi have got together and saved ‘apey miniha’, but isn’t a heroin peddler who is duly charged and whoever rescuing him on the ground that there is no evidence, equally guilty ?
So , the bottom line is , it is a heroin ring SL hero going to be the chairman of the commonwealth summit .
Commonwealth countries certainly can feel proud about it .
