London Chief Buddhist Monk’s Rape Case: Court Of Appeal Rejected Paedophile Monk’s Argument, But Reduced The Sentence

Colombo TelegraphA three-judge panel of the Royal Courts of Justice has rejected the former Chief Sanghanayaka Thera of Great Britain, Pahalagama Somaratana’s argument that the Isleworth Crown Court judge Matthews failed to give an adequate direction to the jury in relation to the issue of delay, 34 years by the time of the trial.
Court of Appeal has reduced Pahalagama Somaratana’s total sentence by one year on June 07, 2013. The appeal was heard by Lord Justice Fulford, Mr Justice Openshaw and Sir David Calvert-Smith. Mansfield QC
