Court impounds Minister’s passport

The Atthanagalla Magistrate today ordered Minister Sarana Gunwardena to hand over his passport to Court when he failed to attend Court when the case was taken up on a previous occassion.

The Minister was summoned to courts in a case relating to the abduction of a child and two others in Weeragala.

The Minister was present in court today and informed court that he had to leave the country on official duty. (Ananda E. Jayakody)

Tense situation opposite D’goda Police MONDAY, 03 JUNE 2013  A tense situation prevails in the vicinity of the Dematagoda Police station after residents gathered to protest following the death of a suspect in Police custody Sources at the Dematagoda Police station said around 60 residents are engaged in the protest. Repeated attempts to contact the Police Spokesman for clarification failed as it had been on several occasions in the past.
