Govt. releasing murder suspects poses threats to the police
11.55PM) The Rajapakse regime released two main suspects released exonerating them of all charges via the Attorney general in connection with the murder of a mother and daughter at Kotakathena , Ratnapura . Due to this illegal action of the regime , the police officers who were engaged in the investigations and the witnesses are under grave threats to their lives.
According to inside information division of Lanka e news, following the release of these suspects on the intervention of the government itself , the police officers who are in mortal fear have either asked for transfers from their present station , or if they don’t get the transfers , they are preparing to leave the service. As the threats are also being posed to the witnesses , they too are in a fear psychosis.
The two suspects who were released by the MaRa government were : Godakawela local body UPFA member L M Dharmasiri , and Sanath Nandana alias Chooti malli. What was most rudely shocking was the applause and welcome accorded including lighting crackers to these murder suspects by the government stooges of Godakawela,Kuriwita , Ratnapura districts as though they have come back after conquering a country and are war heroes.
The local body member Dharmasiri is the co ordinating secretary of Minister John Seneviratne . Latter kept the suspect hidden to avert his arrest at that time , and when the media raised a hue and cry , the Minister in fear , stated he had not hidden him , and arranged for Dharmasiri to surrender .
Both these murderers were released not based on court verdicts but on the verdicts of the ‘Kekille’ King’s Kangaroo court. It is noteworthy that one of the suspects in this double murder was identified by the witnesses in the court identification parade. In such circumstances with such a B report , in a true court of justice , a suspect cannot be released by the Attorney general let alone by god. Despite this , prior to the illegal release order given to these suspects , the defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse who had earned a notoriety locally and internationally as a criminal mastermind had summoned the IGP , the notorious DIG Anura Senanayake , CID Director and the AG’s department Buvaneka Aluvihara and ordered that these suspects shall be released.
Gotabaya had told the group , Seneviratne is threatening to resign from the government if the suspects are not released , and it is being alleged that Seneviratne is given step motherly treatment while Pavithra Wanniarachchi is being pampered . Besides , there is also room for Seneviratne to join with Chandrika , Gotabaya had pointed out. When the IGP had explained the suspect who had been identified in the identification parade cannot be released , and that the CCD had recorded the statement that the suspect had been identified in the identification parade , Gotabaya had flown into a rage and screamed , ‘ are you one of them working against the government?’
The IGP had then cringed and said . ‘ no Sir, I was only telling that to inform you about it .’ Anura Senanayake had immediately said, ‘ I shall look after those statements at the CCD, ’ while the AG Dept. Buvaneka had produced a file to Gotabaya which revealed all necessary action that had been taken to release the murderers.
Following the instructions of Gotabaya , the DIG Anura Senanayake has got down all the registers from the CCD and the Ratnapura police where the murder investigations were recorded , and amended the statements of the suspects. The registers after the amendments had been returned yesterday, after retaining the page where the signatures of the suspects are , and the new pages with the amendments had been put back in the registers in a manner that alterations and interpolations cannot be noticed.
It is significant to note that never in the history of SL , there have occurred such illegal interpolations and amendments distorting police records specially by the direct involvement of a government to rescue murderers. It is very unfortunate that these treacheries of this evil corrupt government renders it impossible for a government that comes into power subsequently to take legal action against the suspects.
According to reports reaching Lanka e news , the Rajapakse regime had released during the last three years 18 murderers this way exonerating them of all charges. Mind you , similarly , 9 suspects who were charged with corruption and fraudulent misappropriation of state funds to the tune of Rs. 150 million were released exonerating them of all charges by this same regime that is a byword for lawlessness and has become notorious for its camaraderie with corrupt and criminal elements.
