Withdraw impeachment motion – Mahanayakas write to President

In a letter written to the President today asking him to withdraw the impeachment process against the Chief Justice the four Mahanayakas state it is not proper to resort to actions which will generate an apprehension with regard to the judiciary and the judges.
The Mahanayakas further state the process would be harmful than beneficial and adds that it is certain to affect the honour and the trust that the judiciary of Sri Lanka has in the world.
The Mahanayakas state the majority of the people think that the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice will lead to a disenchantment about all branches of the judiciary. The Mahanayakas ask the government to think patiently about the ill effect of the impeachment process and to take steps to safe guard the independence of the judiciary and solidify the feelings of justice in the minds of the people.
In their letter to the President the Mahanayakas state the impeachment motion should be withdrawn to avoid the breakdown in law and deterioration of society and request the government and the President to take into consideration the  recommendation of the Supreme Court
