Ruggerite Wasim Thajudin’s murder cast aside as an accident

Senior DIG in-charge of the Colombo Division, Anura Senanayake has managed to almost completely cast aside the death of Sri Lanka rugger player Wasim Thajudin who was killed on Park Road, Colombo 5 on May 17th, police sources say.

OIC of the Kirulapone Traffic Police, R.S.G. Sarathcnadra had visited the scene at 1.20 a.m. and had contacted the Kirulapone Police from the scene of the accident and asked that officers from the crimes division be sent to the place since there was evidence to prove it was a murder.

However, the Kirulapone Traffic Police OIC’s orders had not been carried out since Senior DIG Anura Senanayake had intervened. Senanayake had visited the scene the following day with officers from the Kirulapone Police and said, “Any blind man could see that this is an accident.”

However, the Kirulapone Police had not made any entries about the matter in the Accident Information Book. The police personnel have refrained from making such an entry due to the fear that they might have to give evidence on the matter at some point.

Evidence that is extracted from the scene is usually sent to the Government Analyst, but in this instance, the Analyst had not been sent any samples.

A few days prior to his mysterious death, Thajudin had been involved in an argument with the son of a powerful government minister at the Flower Drum in Colpetty over a love affair.

However, the police have been informed that on the day of the incident two Black TDI Defenders and a double cab had left the scene.
