The lowest to the top leadership in the government are criminals – Anura Dissanayake

Politicians and supporters of the government from the lowest to the top leadership are criminals says the Member of the Political Bureau of the JVP Parliamentarian Anura Dissanayake.
Speaking at a media conference held in the party head office today (8th) Mr. Dissanayake said, “The actions of government politicians and supporters have adversely affected the breakdown of law and order in the country. The leadership of the government from top to bottom has been engaged in an agenda to protect criminals and prevent functioning of the law. There is much evidence to prove this. During the past 180 days complaints of 975 incidents of rape have been recorded. 700 of these are sexual abuse of children. This means four persons are getting sexually abused every day. This situation has been created due to the manipulation of the law and order in the country according to whims and fancies of political stalwarts of the government.
According to police records crimes that have been committed with the involvement of government politicians are more than 17. Sudharman Radaliyagoda was warranted to appear in court before 18th May and Minister Athauda Seneviratne was released on bail against an incident where he had broken into a private land making use of political power. It has been confirmed that bigwigs of the government and their supporters are behind the crime wave that has engulfed the country at present.
Minister Susil Premajayanthe had stated measures would be taken to arrest Members of Pradeshiya Sabhas who have been charged with various crimes. However, not a single person who had been charged of rape and child molesting has been arrested without any agitation by the public. The Secretary General of the SLFP Minister Maithripala Sirisena had stated legal action would be taken against SLFP politicians who have been charged of various crimes. He had asked for information from the IGP regarding these offenders. We want to know what happened to the report by the IGP. All offenders should be punished through the judiciary system. However, what happened is offenders from the government who were involved in crimes were brought before a so-called disciplinary committee of the SLFP and were set free without any punishment.
The masses should think regarding these matters deeply. It is necessary to know that not only politics behind the wave of crime that has engulfed the country at present but also the economic and social matters that have influenced such a wave. Lamenting or protesting against isolated incidents is not a solution for the issue. The whole political culture should be transformed. The JVP emphasizes the need of mass awakening to transform the whole system.”
The Member of the Central committee of the JVP and the National Organizer of the Socialist Students Union Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa too was present.
