Displaying firearms cannot stop our march forward – Somawansa Amarasinghe

We want a just society. We should create it as it would not fall from the sky. We have to win it. Our programmes cannot be stopped by murdering our members or displaying T-56 rifles. This murderous culture of the bankrupt political system should be stopped. The latest murders were committed at Katuwana, the adjoining village. These perpetrators should be arrested. They should be taken before Court. We would continue to agitate against these murders and we would apprise organizations and foreign parties that have relations with us. We would get support from them. Hence, this issue would be discussed locally as well as internationally said the Leader of the JVP Somawansa Amarasinghe.
Mr. Amarasinghe made these observations at a meeting held at Ransagoda area at Hakmana in Matara District on the 17th.
Speaking further Mr. Amarasinghe said, “Very often criminals are not arrested. However, we wouldn’t allow that to happen in this case. We should struggle for justice and win. We could win this struggle. Mahinda Rajapaksa government is bankrupt.  Everyone is a member of the struggle for liberation. This country is going through a critical phase. We feel the political change. We hear from the state TV that the country has been developed. Why are there so many issues if the country has been developed?
The head of the country does not understand issues in the country. He doesn’t understand the difficulties of the masses or the spiraling prices of essential commodities. When we work in the political field he becomes responsive. It could be seen from what he does.
Billions of money was spent and thousands of acres of land were buried to build highways and the harbor. Our foreign exchange reserves have been acutely reduced. When they were opened we were told the country would get much foreign exchange. However, no ships came to the Hambantota harbor. There are no agreements for ships to come there. A few cars were brought there recently. Cars have to be taken to Colombo on land.
The patient called Sri Lanka is serious now. It is the general public that has to bear the burden. Rajapaksa’s thugs cannot stop us telling this to the masses.  It is said that there would be a food issue soon. The government has no plans to confront this. What the government could do is only to take loans from the world. When the war was over it was said the war dividing the country was over and the war to develop the country would begin. However, the income of the masses is not enough to feed their families. There are no plans to develop agriculture or dairy farming so that we have to import all that with loans obtained from foreign institutions. The people in the country have been pushed to the wall. They have to struggle to come forward.”
The JVP Member from Southern Provincial Council Ajanthe Gammadda also participated.
