Absence of rule of law, impunity and police inaction under the Rajapakse regime
(Lanka-e-News-05.May.2012, 11.55PM) The country would have witnessed the villagers who surrounded the STF treasure hunters digging a paddy field located in the Anuradapura Vilachchi area near the Doramadalawa Siyambalapitiya lake

The Police media spokesperson S. P Ajith Rohana who denied the allegation said a group of STF special team was dispatched to Anuradapura on a personal tip to catch a group of treasure hunters who were allegedly digging a treasure in the area and by the time the STF arrived the treasure hunters have already fled the area.
It was confirmed by the villagers of Vilachchi that it was the STF who was digging and nobody else found before. Further the villagers have blocked all the roads not letting the culprits to escape until police arrive. According to the villagers the police has arrived late to the scene and set them free not taking any action to apprehend the culprits into custody. A similar incident reported few months back when the white van abductors were released by DIG Anura Senannayake without any entry at the Kolonnawa Police when they came to abduct the Kolonnawa UC mayor, when people caught the abductors and handed over to the Kolonn
The duty of the police is to apprehend crimes and theft where as the Sri Lankan police protect the criminals and set them free without enforcing the law due for political influence. According to the police media spokesperson the villagers who witnessed the STF digging the place using Backhoe machines is false and the police who did not witness the crime (arrived later) are giving the correct statements. If S.P Ajith Rohana’s statement is correct the STF officers who were sent by the police to catch the crime would have informed the archeological department and the area police about the illicit attempted crime/robbery before dispatching the STF team where the police headquarters’ has failed to do. If police headquarters has informed the area police THE AREA POLICE WOULD HAVE COME ALONG WITH THE STF.
According to the villagers it is confirmed that the regime is involved in digging treasures using the STF to locate the sword of Dutugemunu. It is disgrace to see the law enforcing regime elected by people is robbing national assets belonging to the people of this country.

This is a clear indication and incident the law of the country has gone to dogs. It is no where in the history the police making such a blatant and deliberate upside down lie covering the plain truth in point blank, this is called stuffing the entire pumpkin into the bowl without any conscience.

I wish to remind this bootlicking policeman that it is a disgrace of your uniform to fabricate in point blank thinking the people in the village are fools. This is a situation confirming the impunity is ruling the country where the police are abstaining to implement the law against crimes. Such situations will strength the criminals in numbers and publicly engage in crimes confident of escaping from impunity which is dangerous situation where the country is heading into a lawless state.

Police spokesperson who gave a lofty statement that he will take serious actions against people who take the law into their hands has forgotten to say what action he will take when the Police released the STF treasure hunters scot free when there are villagers ready to give witness about the attempted theft.

This confirms absence of rule of law, impunity and police inaction under the Rajapakse regime.
