(Lanka-e-News-10.Feb.2012, 8.30PM) Yet another incident of sexual assault committed on a young tourist , a beautiful girl ,had been reported from Dickwella on the 6th. This is a further addition to the unending wave of rape crimes in Sri Lanka confirming that the country is fast headed to create a world record on rape crimes. A German tourist girl who was staying in a tourist Hotel in Matara , Dickwella had been sexually assaulted in her room by an unidentified individual. The victim who had been fast asleep with her lover had been rudely awoken at about 3.00 a.m., when she had noticed that an individual had been molesting her . When she screamed , the nude criminal who could not be identified has fled from the room.
It is learnt that attempts are being made to suppress this crime committed on the German tourist in much the same way as the earlier series of rapes that were committed on tourists.
These crimes are reaching alarming proportions in Sri Lanka , because the police instead of investigating the crimes and taking action are more concerned with suppressing them. Consequently , these crimes are mounting rapidly as though the criminals are issued with licenses to commit these rapes.
The name of the German girl who is the Dickwella Hotel victim is Jayinkamei Lambda Ulla Renathe . This sexual assault has occurred in a Hotel bearing the name ‘Ayurveda Kingdom resort’ Dickwella .The owner of this resort is Jayalath Lal.
Lambda Ulla has lodged a complaint in this regard to the Dickwella police on the 6th of February between 2.00 to 3.00 p.m. The complaint had been taken down by a policewoman Ranjani No. 202 and has been recorded in the book under the heinous crimes No. 142012 .
What is most disgusting as is intriguing is :when a victim ( a woman) of a rape reports it , immediately she shall be forwarded for an examination before a court medical officer and a GHT report obtained. Believe it or not , even as this article is being published , the police has done nothing in this direction. Why ? Is it because she is a ‘white skinned ’ lady, efforts are being made to conceal the crime?
Moreover , the victim does not know Sinhala while the policewoman Ranjani who took down the complaint does not know German language. Then , how was the complaint recorded? The Dickwella police OIC has gone to the junction and fetched a Guide who had claimed he knows German. He had translated the victim’s complaint into Sinhala. According to SL laws , if a translated complaint is taken down , a separate statement of the translator shall also be recorded. There had been a serious omission here . The translator’s statement has not been recorded. In other words there is no one to take responsibility for the statement made by the German victim , and the statement recorded in Sinhala by Ranjani. In the least the police should know the name of the Guide . That too is not available.
On top of all these omissions and commissions , so far no one has been taken into custody. It is learnt that the aim is to suppress this shameful and stigmatic episode until the tourist victim leaves the country.
In the prevailing lawless circumstances in this country and the impunity enjoyed by these criminals , the Sri Lankan barbaric beasts must be thinking they can always escape from the clutches of the law after committing cruel and wicked rapes on girls and women . The responsibility for this disgraceful scenario where police is lax ,should be shouldered by the defense Secretary , the chief in charge of the security of the country. If anybody says the law and discipline in this country have gone to the dogs , it is because a mongrel that should be kept in a kennel is unleashed and is in charge.
