Bus and lorry operators have staged a day-long strike across Sri Lanka in response to sudden steep rises in the cost of fuel.Roads have also been blockaded by fishermen who say the price hikes will ruin their livelihood.
The bus strike has now been called off after the authorities said fares will be allowed to rise by 20%, but the fishermen’s blockade will continue on Tuesday.
There are now fears that basic goods will get more expensive.
