A suspect who had killed at least 12 beggars in parts of Colombo and greater Colombo has been arrested, the police media unit said this morning.The police said that the suspect had initially been arrested over a heroin related case in Mount Lavinia and was detained for a period of time.
During investigations it came to light that the suspect had killed several beggars by hitting them on the head using a brick.
According to the police, the suspect had killed beggars in Moratuwa, Kiribathgoda, Colpetty, Peliyagoda, Wellawatte, Kotahena, Mount Lavinia, Slave Island and Kelaniya.
The suspect did not have a permanent residence and used to loiter on the pavements, the police said.
