The participation of the convention by progressive forces of India generates hopes that the situation will not be hijacked, commented Eezham Tamil political circles.

Meanwhile, civil society institutions comprising prominent grassroot political activists, educationalists, writers, social workers, media persons and mainstream media artists also have come out with a similar demand from Tamil Nadu.The Tamil Nadu civil society persons in their statement, citing Sri Lanka media reports, accuse that the Indian establishment has currently formed an outfit to help Sri Lanka to escape from the war crimes indictment.
Political observers are of the opinion that the Indian Establishment in complicity with the genocidal state in Sri Lanka will try to diffuse the situation by harping on partial implementation of the failed 13th Amendment of Sri Lanka’s unitary constitution enacted nearly a quarter century ago.
The Indian establishment’s hoodwink to come has the support of the designs of the West that has half-baked understanding of the intentions of the genocidal state in the island or has sinister ideas of exploiting the outcome, political observers said.
Mahinda Rajapaksa shows better understanding and genuineness in rejecting the 13th Amendment, as he knows well that it will not satisfy the Tamils after all what the Sri Lankan state did to them and the possibility for him within the given system is only to pursue further genocide. He cannot be fully blamed for the predicament to which India and the West have put him in.
The civil society in South Asia, making the best use of the space provided by the UN panel report, may have to think beyond the panel report in materialising results that would be trend-setting to entire humanity, political observers further said, adding that the war crimes investigation demand without the call for liberation of Eezham Tamils will only facilitate the designs of the powers.
