Rathana Thera accused of misusing Rs. 4 m!

The government is to file a court case on charges of misuse of state funds, criminal breach of trust and furnishing fake documents against Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, convener of the National Movement for a Clean Tomorrow, who is presently raising a voice against the government and is joining hands with the opposition.The attorney general has instructed the director of the CID to initiate investigations as there is clear evidence that the Thera had obtained Rs. 4.73 million from the state, purportedly to build a Buddhist affairs and reawakening centre, but instead had used the money to build a private quarters for himself.
The AG gave the instructions to CID chief SSP L.R. Ranaweera last week, and the presidential secretariat has ordered him to delay summoning him until 12 noon today to obtain a statement.
