A corrupt political correspondent
September 14, 2014
Ceylon Today is ready to reveal several corrupt deals of a political correspondent of a national English weekly who plays 'both ways' to amass wealth. He is no different from the famous corrupt political correspondents; Nevanji Madanhire (The Standard), Brian Mangwende (Newsday) in Harare or Maurice Lance Nlube (Sun - Times) of Malawi. This political correspondent has gained much over the past four decades to build a mansion and enjoy acres of lands in the outstations holding certain politicians to ransom with his pen. He once traversed the 'Road to Justice,' located in the 'New Boutique' area in Colombo every morning with rise of the Sun. He escaped from being charged for having raped a young woman journalist who worked under him way back in 1980s wielding political power.
The late Minister of Internal Security, T.B. Werapitiya who was in charge of the Police knew that rape story well.
Having escaped from that case, this Political Correspondent who was a News Editor at that time befriended another young woman journalist working under him. He wrote feature articles for her and published them under her byline to promote her. In the meantime intimacy too grew strong and couple set out from that editorial together.
As the relations became sour, this Political Correspondent tried an 'escape route'. However, the Nugegoda 'Tilakes' were tough, as they all came from a legal and political background. Despite the huge age gap, the man was caught in 'marriage' trap. During that UNP regime he managed to get 60 acres of land from Minuwangoda and upcountry areas using his pen to threaten politicians on both sides over alleged abuses.
Amassing wealth was his hobby abusing the might of the fourth estate. During the Kumaratunga administration he used his column to attack a high ranking minister and was offered a grand bungalow and a tea estate in Matale. During the terrorist war, he posed off as a correspondent of a magazine that had links with arms manufacturers and acted as the local agent to promote arms deals.
When President Mahinda Rajapaksa assumed office, he ordered an investigation into the reported corrupt acts of this Political Correspondent. The man stopped the weekly column and jumped the country. Having returned after a long absence he has resumed his weekly column. Now attempts are being made to sweep the investigation file under the carpet. This Political Correspondent is reported to be busy visiting 'High Places' pleading not to proceed with the investigation.
Ceylon Today will assure the readers that we will unfold all details about this corrupt Political Correspondent in question, and will also speak to him to get his comments about the investigation that is now proceeding against him.
