Now masses are prepared to come out. University students under the leadership of IUSF were able win their demand because of this general conditions now prevailing in the country. Five years back situation was very different with a fascistic force supporting the regime. NSSP was able to build a tactical alliance with the UNP and fight back. Our efforts were successful and the erosion of the regime started. Students struggle was helpful but it is the general mass action that broke the back bone of the regime. It is good that the student organisation IUSF – ANTHARAYA - called a mass movement under the banner “Students –people standing against neoliberal capitalism and anti democratic repression of the regime”. We also participated under UFL banner. However in the slogans, though all agitations, struggles and repressions are mentioned, the national problem is kept out. Repression of minority communities, most glaring ant democratic repression was not mentioned. the capitalist leader Ranil has sharply criticized the intervention of the IMF to dismantle the welfare state , attacks on free education, free health, pensions , provident fund etc, while demanding the implementation of both 13th amendment and the LLRC recommendations. In such a scenario this movement in its march foreword, will be handicapped by the omission of repression of minorities. Left mass movement will appear less democratic than the movement of the bourgeois. We request the left oriented TU leaders who are in the movement, to raise this matter with the IUSF to seek a remedy immediately.
While these problems arise in the oppositional mass actions Mahinda regime is tied down by the proposed inquiry by the UNHR organisation. Latter has demanded visa to come to Lanka. Mahinda regime is opposed to this and it has decided to bring this issue to the parliament for a decision. Clearly this is a bogus action, as the regime has over 2/3 majority in the parliament. Who prepared the ground for this foreign attack on our motherland? It was Mahinda himself. He failed to implement 13th amendment and the LLRC report recommendations, though he promised to do so to the international community. He should call a conference of all representatives of minority communities and get their support by a genuine agreement and issue a combine statement to the foreign powers to not to barge into our country as we are resolving all human rights issue locally. Even the most obedient Muslim leader, cabinet minister Hakim complained that the minimum equality is not granted to minority nationalities when the NE provincial councils are treated differently by forcing governors and chief secretaries on them with out any consultation and agreement.
One minister made a strange statement in the parliament. He reminded that British invaders brutally murdered Sinhala masses without any mercy and now they wanted to inquire in to the oppression of Tamils. How can this minister make such a foul statement? Firstly British rulers made those atrocities while there was opposition among the British masses; Infact even Marx and Engels lived there. Later Philip brought socialism from Britain. One Britisher Brace girdle became a hero by fighting for human rights. Hence British democratic masses have every right to be concerned about HR violations in Lanka. Also parliament came to Lanka through the British. Does the Minster want to go back to old monarchic constitution? He should remember how Philip fought for democracy and won. Secondly does the fact that the British carried out brutal aggressions in the past, give the minister and the government a right to carry out brutalities against the Tamils. Is that his argument?
Mahinda has said that some crows are selling the country to receive dollars. Who is this Kaka, crow? It is Mahinda who for the sake of dollars from the IMF and other dollar lenders, cuts social welfare in this country and bleeds the inhabitants. Under the bogus development that suites them, Mahinda regime is filling their pockets. So kaka the crow is in the presidential house. This crow has let down the country, bled the country and opened doors for aggression form alien powers. Mahinda has said that Sinhala identity was protected by the Buddhist temples. This is a slander on Buddhism and Sangha. Buddhism is not a protector for any clan whether Sinhala Tamil or otherwise. It is the end of philosophical pursuit of mankind. Long before Hegel or Marx, Buddha explained that the fundamental nature of reality is impermanence, division and lack of content. Empirical world of physical reality is created by continuation of the law of arising, existence and perish. Our attachment to the physical world and desire for permanence make us live in illusions. By controlling this drive one would be able to look at the other with love and kindness.
