SRI LANKA: A man suffering from mental disorder is severely tortured by officers from the Inginiyagala Police Station

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has received information that Mr. Nanthamuni Arachchilage Asitha Sri Dewanandha is a 34-year-old man suffering from a mental disorder. On 26 May, 2013 he scuffled with some police officers attached to the Inginiyagala Police Station and accidentally injured one of the officers on the head. Following the incident the officers searched until the morning of the 28th when they caught and arrested him. The officers did not consider his mental condition and assaulted him severely and at one point even inserted a bottle into his rectum.
