Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry to Investigate Sexuality harassments within

(July 28, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Top officials in the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs is setting up a special tribunal (committee) to investigate series of sexual harassments reported within the institute recent past.
It has been known within the institute as well as embassies and high commissions located abroad that there were serious sexual harassments against junior female staff members were reported but lack of accountability within institute has led to repeat the wrongdoings by alleged perpetrators.
“Absence of authentic mechanism to investigate such serious crimes has created not only the hostile situation for those who newly joined the Foreign Service but also impunity for alleged perpetrators to repeat their desires”, a senior diplomat told the Sri Lanka Guardian.
However, Sri Lanka Guardian tried to reach Prasad Kariyawasam, secretary of the ministry but he is not reachable for comment.
