UNP Councilor for Western Provincial Council Randir Rodrigo is among the underworld gang that was arrested after an exchange of fire that occurred near the Henpitagedera School at Dunagaha in Divulapitiya area state reports.
On receiving information that an underworld gang was moving about in the area a team of STF had gone to the area and had observed two suspicious characters staying on the road opposite Henpitagedera School.Another group had arrived in a van and when STF officers reached the scene the suspects had opened fire at the STF officers.
STF officers have returned the fire and one suspect injured in the incident had died after being admitted to Divulapitiya Hospital. The person who was killed is said to be Aluthpola Cooray, a former Sri Lanka Navy personnel.
Seven people in the gang have been arrested and UNP Councilor for Western Provincial Council Randir Rodrigo was among the arrested. Three firearms, the van and a grenade have been seized by the police. Divulapitiya Police is conducting investigations stated the Police Media Office.
