A week-long demonstration by a group of disabled soldiers demanding full pension benefits ended yesterday when Police fired water cannon and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, who were attempting to enter the President’s office. Following discussions, the Defence Ministry agreed to grant the same retirement benefits to all soldiers, including those who had voluntarily left the service prior to completing the compulsory 12 years to gain eligibility to pension benefits - Pic by Ruwan Walpola
