Signature faked in Sri Ranga’s B report!

- The OIC’s signature has been faked in a B report relating to a fatal vehicle accident committed by J. Sri Ranga when he was an MP. Around 4.30 pm on 30 March 2011, he had been driving an unregistered Land Cruiser towards Mannar on Medawachchiya-Mannar highway when the jeep veered off the road and crashed onto the Settikulam Hospital wall. It killed Ranga’s PSD bodyguard, a constable.
Due to political pressure, the then IGP Mahinda Balasuriya and other officials had claimed, in a bid to save Ranga, that the PC had driven the vehicle. Investigations reveal the signature of the then Settikulam police OIC Sanjeewa had been faked into the B report.
Now, there is evidence to show that it was Ranga who had driven the vehicle. The relevant reports have been sent to the attorney general’s department. Police say the next course of action will be taken upon receipt of the AG’s advice.
