UNpers ask if PM’s law applies only to Thewarapperuma!

Kalutara district MP Palitha Thewarapperuma remains in remand custody for nearly 1 ½ months now over a charge of causing minor injury, an easily bailable offence, which can even be referred to a mediation board for settlement. His incarceration is due to prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s having told police to enforce the law against him strictly, say UNPers.
Former UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake got bail within five days after having prepared bogus documents and drug trafficker Duminda Silva did not go behind bars for a single day, but Thewarapperuma has thus been punished because he had tried to knife the premier some time ago, it is clear to the party supporters.
Thewarapperuma should be punished for his offence, but grassroots level supporters get discouraged due to their leaders pursuing personal agendas in this manner, they point out. This will have a very bad effect on the party with a general election to be held in the near future, the UNP supporters warn.
