Maithri’s brother leaves country!

Wealthy businessman Dudley Sirisena, brother of SLFP general secretary and health minister Maithripala Sirisena, has left the country in a previously unannounced trip, say SLFP sources.

For the past one week, the Rajapaksas paid much attention to the minister and his family members, and president’s brother Basil Rajapaksa has met Dudley and got him and the president to talk to each other over his phone. At this conversation, the president invited Dudley to contest from Anuradhapura district on the UPFA ticket. Furthermore, he was promised a powerful ministry once elected.

The SLFP sources say that the Rajapaksas, led by the president, are attempting to break the close political connection between Maithripala Sirisena and the former president. The State Intelligence Service has briefed the president regarding the minister, after which the president has advised his brothers to attempt their utmost to prevent him from taking a strong political decision, say the sources.
