Colombo Telegraph

November 18, 2014
It seems President Rajapaksa has been discovering various cost efficient ways to carry out his campaigning for the upcoming Presidential polls even before the elections have been announced.
AgriIt has been reported that the various meet-ups that are presently being held at the Temple Trees targeting the upcoming polls almost every day for various government departments, are being financed by the relevant government institutions themselves.
A letter issued by the Commissioner General of the Agrarian Development Department (ADD) on November 14 has revealed that money is being collected from the establishment’s district offices to foot the bill of a meeting that was held at the Temple Trees for farmers’ representatives and Agrarian Development Department officials.
The letter notes that the finances spent on the meeting that was held for these officials on November 10 and 11 cannot be borne by the Agrarian Department due to the lack of funds, and therefore, each Assistant Commissioner and district representative to whom the letter has been issued has been instructed to pay Rs. 150,000 to collect the required finances.
In the letter issued by ADD Commissioner General MAS Weerasinghe, the officials have been instructed to issue a cheque to make the payment before Noevmber 19.
