Gaza Children Mourn Classmates After War

More than half a million Gaza students began a new school year.

(GAZA STRIP) - When they returned to their classes after the savage Israeli war, Gaza children mourned the loss of classmates. These pictures were taken on the first school day.

“I am happy to go to school and meet friends,” 9-year old Salmah Ali said.

“But when I attended my class and felt very sad and my tears fell from my eyes when I recognised that my best friend Salwa and her family were killed during the war.”

In a tweet, UNRWA Spokesman Chris Gunness described the situation in Gaza:

“Everyone in Gaza has a story of death and dispossession, yet the Palestinian spirit seems to rise ever higher – humbling lesson in humanity.”
