Sajin Vaas dug grave for Jaliya too!

Supervising MP of the External Affairs Ministry Sajin Vaas Gunawardena has dug the grave for former Sri Lankan ambassador in the US Jaliya Wickramasuriya to leave the Foreign Service, after plotting similarly to see the discontinuation of the services of several senior diplomats to the country, a senior official of the ministry told us.

Exercising his theory of using cat’s paws to get things done to suit his whims and fancies, Sajin Vaas had used deputy permanent representative at the United Nations in New York, Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva, to make Wickramasuriya an invalid.

Saying that the renowned public relations firm Pattern Boggs is not doing a proper job of boosting Sri Lanka’s image and reputation internationally which the Sri Lankan embassy in New York had entrusted to it, Sajin Vaas has told Shavendra to hold talks with representatives of the PR firm. At this meeting, it transpired that the firm had not received the money it had requested from the Sri Lankan government. On Sajin Vaas’ instructions, Shavendra has directly telephoned the president and complained to him over that. Before that, Sajin Vaas had laid the groundwork to ensure that the president is disappointed with the performance of Jaliya.

Soon after Shavendra’s telephone call, the president had phoned Wickramasuriya, his cousin, on his mobile phone and abused him in filth. Despite efforts by Jaliya at explaining, the president has hung up. Straight away, the president has ordered Sajin Vaas to cancel the agreement with Pattern Boggs and immediately appoint one or two other firms for that task. Accordingly, the duty of boosting Sri Lanka’s image and reputation was entrusted to Madison Group and Beltway recently.

The senior official further said that the funding for this image building campaign is not released through the External Affairs Ministry, but is sent by Sajin Vaas through a secret account to personal accounts named by the Sri Lankan diplomats. Sajin Vaas well knows that the ambassadors and the high commissioners misuse the funding. But, it is his ploy to let them do so and then get them to dance to his tunes with threats. In the end, the diplomats get entangled in the web woven by him, and become his puppets.

He had ensured the end of several diplomats who had refused to do so. Among them are Dr. Dayan Jayatilake (France), Thamara Kunanayakam (Geneva), late Dr. Asitha Perera (Italy), Chitranganie Wagiswara (Canada) and Jaliya Wickramasuriya (US). He could not hunt down Dr. Chris Nonis of the UK only, because of his close connections to the president, and due to the fact that he does not get involved in financial affairs of the high commission. However, it would not be very long that Sajin Vaas and his crony, ministry secretary Kshenuka Seneviratne, prey on Dr. Nonis, the senior official added.
