MR moved by BBS statement of toppling government

bodu bala sena 09The Mahinda Rajapaksa government that initially allowed the Sinhala Buddhist extremist group, Bodhu Bala Sena (BBS), to campaign against the Muslim community in the country and encouraged hate speech against the Muslims is now upset with the statement made by the organization that it would topple the government.

BBS General Secretary Ven. Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thero said at a news conference that the organization could topple the government if it wanted.
The matter was made worse when the Malwatte mahanayake asked Ven. Gnanasara Thero yesterday to address the issue of toppling the government as stated by the BBS.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa who met media heads today said that he would not allow any organization to take the law into their hands.
A mob led by the BBS yesterday stormed Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce saying they were looking for the Ven. Watarekke Vijitha Thero.
Ministry officials said that after staging a protest outside the building some of the protesters led by a monk went inside and searched the rooms.
Minister Bathiudeen, who later arrived at the Ministry, said the monks had no right to search a Government Ministry office adding that such practice will not be good for the country or the monks.
The BBS has accused the venerable Ven. Vijitha Thero of working with Minister Bathiudeen to illegally settle several displaced Muslims in the Wilpattu national park.
President Rajapaksa today said that a special Police unit would be established within the Religious Affairs Ministry to inquire complains on religious matters.
