LTTE Takes Centre Stage

One again, it is the LTTE that is in the news. More than four and a half years after its demise on the battlefields of the Vanni, Australia has been banned the organisation for a further period. It caused controversy in Sri Lanka’s Parliament when an opposition MP praised its late leader and his destroyed organisation. The manner in which the government sought to suppress any commemoration of it in the North shows how concerned it is about the possible revitalization of the LTTE in the consciousness of the people of the North. The government issued a warning that any adulation or propaganda on behalf of the LTTE is banned by law.
