A group of Buddhist monks and Buddhist extremist elements from the South are constructing a Buddhist Vihara in the Tamil village of Thangka-vealaayutha-puram in Ampaa'rai district. The occupying Sri Lankan military is assisting the monks, news sources in Thirukkoayil told TamilNet.

The Sinhala group with several monks and with the support of occupying Sri Lanka Army is engaged in constructing a Vihare.

They have constructed four pillars in the land as a start.

Several hundred Tamil families uprooted from Thangkavealaayuthapuram, Kaagnchirangkudaa and Kangnchi-kudichaa'ru during are still waiting for resettlement.

The SLGA of Ampaa'rai district, who is a Sinhalese, refused to meet the two Tamil heads of civic bodies when they went to hand over an appeal, civil sources said.   The Chairman of the Kaaraitheevu Piratheasa Chapai Mr Selliah Rasiah had asked him to stop the construction of the Vihara where not a Sinhala Buddhist is living, civil sources in Thirukkoayil said.

Aalaiyadivempu PS Chairman Mr Ratnavel Puvitharaj also submitted a memorandum to the Government Agent in this regard.

The construction of the said vihara would lead to create animosity between Tamils and Sinhalese, the Tamil local authority leaders had stated in their appeal to the SL Governmnet Agent.
