President’s babyish pretences petering out ! Navy Commander Sinniah ‘s service terminated in a month !

-3 Admirals opposed the war ship deal yet unheeded!

LEN logo(Lanka-e-News - 26.Sep.2017, 7.20PM)  The colossal racket  involving many billions of rupees  planned by Kili Maharaja the notorious wheeler dealer and the son in law of the president , pertaining to the purchase of a decrepit ten years old warship has not been approved by the newly appointed Navy Commander . Owing to this  a  conspiracy has been  hatched to oust him from the post soon  after he took oaths recently . His official term of service  is to be curtailed to  just another month only.
Travis Sinniah the Navy Commander was a victim of political vendetta  during the corrupt nefarious decade  of the  last government . Sinniah an exceptional war hero was appointed as Navy Commander on 2017-08-18 amidst immense and intense opposition. He reached the age of 55 years on 2017-09-26 –today . According to Naval laws , though every Naval officer must retire when he reaches the age of 55 years, yet if he is appointed as Navy commander just prior to that he can continue in the post for a further 3 years. That is , as soon as he is  appointed as Navy Commander so he becomes eligible for an extension of his term by 3 years. However under the  corrupt Rajapakse reign , in order to appoint its henchmen and stooges as Navy Commander sooner , this three years extension period was trimmed down  to one year . Thereafter if only  necessary , further extension was granted after the one year period was over.
Therefore even based on the ‘Rajapakse theory’,  Sinniah can be granted  an extension of one year , yet the defense ministry has yesterday (25) granted him an extension of only one month. When president Maithripala Sirisena who is the defense minister cum chief of staff of the forces was contacted  while he was  in New York , he  had stated, he would be taking steps to give him an extension of at least  6 months. Yet , shockingly he had been given an extension of only a month in service.
It was just yesterday (25) morning, Lanka e news  revealed that president had tabled a cabinet paper seeking permission for the purchase of a warship which deal is more outrageous than the MiG racket of notorious Gotabaya because of the magnitude of the deal and the massive illicit gains and corruption intimately integrated with it  , and  that present  Navy Commander Sinniah had opposed this deal.

According to Naval sources , because the Navy commander resented this massive decrepit 10 years old warship racket  involving huge amount of filthy lucre , which was well planned by Kili Maharaja and the president’s son in law , moves are now afoot to oust the Navy commander in a month , and replace him with somebody  from the Rajarata -from the village of the president as the next Navy Commander.
In any event , three Admirals of the Navy have submitted a report earlier against the purchase of the ten years old Frigate class Russian warship of the Gepard category , which deal the president is trying hard  to steer through . They have in the report stated the ship is not suitable for SL. The three admirals are : Vice admiral S.S.Ramasinghe , Vice admiral Dharmabandu Wettewa and Vice admiral Neil Rajapakse, based on reports reaching Lanka e news.
Whether this warship is suitable was probed into not by the present Sirisena administration but by the previous Rajapakse administration. They were the founders  of the idea to purchase this decrepit ship.
When it was being  probed then whether the ship was suitable , the vessel’s plan drawings were not forwarded. Hence the admirals had then gone to Vietnam to  inspect a similar ship in Vietnam at that time. Later they returned to the country and reported  that  the Russian ship was unsuitable. Subsequently  however when Sirisena became the president , he was  carried on the shoulders towards the same project ,  but by his own henchmen.
It  is despite  these three admirals giving  an adverse report against this deal , the ex Navy commander Ravindra Wijegunaratne has prepared a report that the decrepit ship is suitable , in order  to serve the dastardly aims of Kili Maharaja and  president’s son in law .
It is clear now why the president gave an extension in service to Wijegunaratne even after he behaved like a creature from the planet of the Apes when  he  mauled a journalist , and despite  huge opposition mounted against it.
It is by now very obvious  why the president is readying to  send the present Navy commander on retirement in a month who rightly and accurately confirmed, this decrepit ship which is the center of a storm of controversy is not suitable for purchase.
All these are clear pointers that  the days of  feigning ignorance and innocence of  president Maithripala  Sirisena as well as his babyish pretenses  are  petering to an end. It will be in the president’s own interest if he realizes sooner than later truth declares itself  some day somehow .

Sri Lanka: Federalism sees the light of day

A federal system of government may take more time to finally evolve, as it presupposes that there is consensus between all the constituent parties, and that they are willing to work together, as we see in so many other states around the world.

by Dr Nirmala Chandrahasan-
( September 28, 2017, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The landmark judgment of the three-bench Supreme Court in Chandrasoma v Senathiraja and Thurairajasingham has given a ruling that Federalism is not Separatism. This has at last released this constitutional system from the dark cloud of suspicion that the very word federal seemed to evoke among a section of the population in this country. It is, therefore, a most fortuitous and welcome decision. No less welcome is the visit of the Chief Minister of the Northern Province, C.V Wigneswaran, to meet with the Mahanayakes of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters of the Buddhist clergy and the Maha Sangha Council in Kandy, to place before them the case for a Federal Constitution, and also bring to their attention the travails faced by the people of the war torn northern province. The meetings are the first steps taken by the Tamil leadership to reach out to the Maha Sangha, which institution commands the respect and reverence of the people, and among whom are many learned and cultured monks who are mindful of the long cultural and religious ties between the two communities, Sinhalese and Tamil speaking people, who have inhabited this island for over 2 millennia.
The campaign of selective interpretation and calumny against the federal system, by a section of politicians, as well as by a section of the media, resulting in whipping up the emotions of people, either through ignorance or malice, cannot be erased at a moment’s notice. It has been a long time in the making. A remark of the doyen of indigenous NGOs, Dr Ariyaratne comes to my mind. When some years back he was interviewed about his experiences of the non-violent Tamil Satyagraha during the 50s and 60s, and the federal party leader, Dr. Ariyaratne while praising Mr. Chelvanayakam, remarked, ‘But that word federal, even then we were being told it was the first step to separation.’ However, the recent events may hopefully lead to a change in the peoples’ thinking. It is now well known that it was not the Tamil leaders, but the Kandyan delegation to the Donoughmore Commission who first advocated federalism in the 1930s, as under this system of government the Kandyan provinces could have greater autonomy and power sharing. They felt that under a unitary system they would be dominated by the low country Sinhalese and the Jaffna Tamils who had educational advantages, and who would consequently take over the administration when the country became self governing. Subsequently, it was S. W. R. D Bandaranaike in the days of the State Council who advocated federalism as the best constitutional system for the country. This was in the early years of his political life, although he was not to pursue it.
The Tamil leadership did not see the advantages of a federal system, and it was only in 1949 that a small breakaway group of the Tamil Congress, namely S.J.V Chelvanayakam, Dr. E.M.V Naganathan and C. Vanniasingham espoused federalism, for the very same reasons articulated by the Kandyan delegation above as a means of autonomy within an undivided country and formed the Federal Party. The event which moved them to take this step was the legislation designed to take away the citizenship rights of Tamil plantation workers in the hill country, which the UNP Government under Prime Minister D.S.Senanayake was introducing in Parliament. It is argued that this legislation was directed against them not only because of their ethnic identity and more recent Indian origin, but more so because they constituted a big vote bank for the left parties, which in the early years of independence were a threat to the UNP which represented the right wing, as they had a considerable following in the country and charismatic leaders. It is not surprising that the Tamil Congress with a similar class background voted with the government, and subsequently joined the D.S Senanayake government, G.G Ponnambalam the leader of the party being accorded a Cabinet ministry.

Multi-ethnic state

So why did these few Tamil leaders espouse federalism? These gentlemen did not have any separatist intentions nor did they want to break up the country, but they felt that in the context of a multi-ethnic state such as Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, this would be the system of government which would be fair and just to all, by being more representative and ensuring a more equal distribution of resources. It would prevent an ethnic majority overriding a small ethnic or religious minority or pursuing discriminatory policies against it, and would enable power sharing between all communities. In a democracy, it is true the majority can form the government and govern, but it is a variable majority as people can change their party allegiance, whereas in a multi-ethnic state where there is a permanent ethnic majority it becomes majoritarian rule by a permanent majority and not democracy in the true sense of the word. Next door in the state of India these gentlemen saw an entire subcontinent made up of diverse linguistic, ethnic identities and religions held together by a federal constitution. Thus the proponents of federalism felt that for a multi-ethnic state the best constitution was a federal one.
The Tamil electorate at first rejected the Federal Party. At the 1952 election, they were roundly defeated. In fact, they were mocked and derided by the people and their attempts at holding public meetings to explain their position were broken up by unruly elements. But in 1956 came the Sinhala Only Act making Sinhala the only Official language. While this made way for the Sinhala speaking majority to be governed in their language, it excluded and alienated the Tamil speaking people. It was then that the Tamil speaking people, Tamils and Muslims, woke up to the dangers of majoritarian rule. The United National Party forsook them and the left parties were to follow. The minorities now saw themselves as no longer equal partners and co- citizens in a country that had thrown off colonial rule, but once again under the rule of another master. This laid the ground for the seeds of animosity between the communities, which was later to burgeon into an armed conflict.
The Federal Party unreservedly upheld the policy of non-violence and the Buddhist principle of Ahimsa followed by Mahatma Gandhi. They conducted Satyagrahas and peaceful protests against the discriminatory legislation. However, their peaceful protests were met with violence, which they bore without any attempt at retaliation. When the Federal party leaders S.J.V Chelvanayakam, Dr. Naganathan and Vanniasingham, together with the MPs of the party and other supporters, performed Satyagraha on the Galle face Green opposite the old Parliament to protest the imposition of the Act, they were attacked and beaten up by thugs and rowdies, and their supporters were beaten up and thrown into the Beira lake. Meanwhile, the police looked on from around the House of Parliament and no attempt was made by the Government to stop the mayhem.
Subsequently, the Federal party organized the historic march to Trincomalee and passed the resolution in favor of a federal constitution. In the 1961 civil disobedience campaign following upon the enforcement of the Sinhala only Act in the northern and eastern provinces, the FP members and thousands of party supporters, which included women and school children, performed Satyagraha in front of the Katcheris, (GA’s 0ffices) effectively stopping the administration. In the northern and eastern provinces the Muslims also participated, and the civil administration in both these provinces was brought to a standstill. But, instead of making any conciliatory moves and solving the issue in a democratic way by making Tamil also an Official language and the language of administration in the North and East, the Government of the day sent in the Police and Army. The peaceful protests were broken up with force and the Federal Party leaders and MPs were arrested and incarcerated in the Panagoda Army camp.
The FP leadership had also been making representations in Parliament, and had entered into negotiations with the SLFP and UNP governments for some measure of Language rights and administrative devolution of powers, as in the Bandaranaike – Chelvanayakam pact and the Dudley Senanayake – Chelvanayakam pact, but both pacts were broken by succeeding SLFP and UNP governments. This was because no sooner one Sinhala party attempted to bring about a negotiated settlement the other party tried to scuttle it so as not to allow the other to get the credit. At the same time there was also pressure exerted by those who considered themselves nationalist Sinhalese forces. This reaction was largely brought about by the mistaken notion that had been given to the Sinhala people that Federalism was separatism. This notion has at long last been displaced by the recent judgement in Chandrasoma v Senathiraja and Thurairajasinhgham.

No substance

However, even after the judgement I have come upon articles which continue to raise geopolitical fears that if more powers were devolved on the Tamil provinces they would then attach themselves to South India. This is a specious and mischievous argument which has no substance. A small Sri Lankan Tamil population which has had its own kingdom and maintained its identity, historically innately intertwined with its Sinhala speaking brethren for so many centuries, would hardly submerge itself in a sea of 70 million or more across the Palk Strait. It is noteworthy that in the above case the Supreme Court accepted the claim made by the Federal Party that their policy was that of a shared sovereignty and federal autonomy within a United and undivided Sri Lanka as affirmed in their public statements including election manifestos, and did not amount to advocacy of secession.
The Indo – Sri Lanka Peace Accord and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution brought some measure of devolution through the setting up of the Provincial Councils, not only for the North and East but for the whole island. It is now left to build on the positive features of the 13th Amendment while making the Provincials Councils to actually serve its constituency more, by providing them with the fiscal and administrative authorities that are not undermined by features such as the powers of the Governors over the finances and the provincial executive; which incidentally even the President does not exercise in respect of Parliament. In the new Constitution presently being formulated these matters can be worked out so that there could be greater power sharing between all communities. It is to be hoped that the parties that represent the Sinhala people will be able to live up to the aspiration of all communities and come together in an attempt to progressively resolve this issue, so that all communities can feel equal and contribute to take the country forward without any more conflict.
A federal system of government may take more time to finally evolve, as it presupposes that there is consensus between all the constituent parties, and that they are willing to work together, as we see in so many other states around the world. Federal constitutions are not uniform and there are those which have more unitary features and some less. For a Federal constitution to come into being all communities in Sri Lanka will have to jointly work out a system of federalism which suits this country, in the conviction that the federal system is the best system of government for a multi-ethnic state, in keeping with the vision of the founding fathers of the Federal Party.

Good Governance guarantees interests of oppressed masses

DR.Vickramabahu Karunaratne-2017-09-28

In Sri Lanka, a radical overhaul is underway – of the political, economic, and social system. In other words, an unrecognized revolution is taking place. That means, the upsurge of the masses that took place two years back is still surging forward. A new Constitution is being discussed; at the same time, a series of radical reforms are being rushed through. The fact that many of these reforms are being challenged as unconstitutional obviously indicates that the coming new Constitution is aimed at making what is unconstitutional today, constitutional tomorrow, making legal what is illegal by changing the fundamental laws of the country.

Yes, this is a revolution without bloodshed, at least so far. It is the fundamental and inalienable right of the people to determine the economic, social, and political system in which they choose to live. This choice is their choice because it is freely made, not with a gun pointed at their heads. This is true for all nationalities living in Sri Lanka.

Today, the world is maintained by the G2O agreement and Sri Lanka finds itself practically under a collective global power strategic objective and its global hegemony. This emerged after the international economic crisis after 2008. In spite of political changes taking place in the whole world including America, the international political balance of
G20 is still working. It is indeed in this world reality that the US Ambassador chose to announce Washington's decision to assist Sri Lanka draft its Constitution and implement the Human Rights Council resolution. We must remember the power of the working masses of the frontline global powers expressed by leaders such as Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn.

We are living in a world where the US depends on money and support given by China in difficult days. Gone are the days of the US supporting ground forces on enemy territory and patrolling provocatively close to China. It is also with Indian friendship that from Temple Trees the Acting US Assistant Secretary of State Alice Wells declared, recently, that "the United States is – and will continue to be – an Indo-Pacific power."

Anyone can see that rewriting the Constitution under such conditions can only advance the cause of all nationalities in Sri Lanka and nothing else.

Of course there are guns pointed at Sri Lanka due to the heinous crimes committed by the fascistic Mahinda regime: the 2015 Human Rights resolution and the strict IMF/World Bank conditions including the populist political condition popularly known as Good Governance, a grudging recognition by the global capital the power of the masses for unity with the national interest. Yes, 'Good Governance' – or Yahapalana as people know it here – was not invented by simpletons or potta Tamils following Mahinda.

The IMF, World Bank and the US Treasury coined the term in the late 1980s so as to deviate the revolutions and uprisings in the third world to liberal ends; a political conditionality for keeping indebted Third World countries such as ours within the system of global capitalism.

Good Governance takes politics out of government and manages a shift from government to governance. Bydoing so, it has undermined the conflict between liberals and the left. For a limited period where national reconciliation and power sharing has been implemented, it neutralized identity conflicts especially in multi-ethnic societies. One can find the same words in the Human Rights Council resolution and in the Good Governance conditionality: rule of law, democracy, devolution, participation, etc. These are the same positive words used eagerly by the Yahapalana regime. In January 2016 last year, the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, told Parliament that the purpose of the new Constitution was, in addition to national unification, to establish "a political culture that respects the rule of law and strengthens democracy." The aim of Good Governance is to convert the absolutist chauvinist State into effective and strong State agencies that guarantee the interests of the oppressed masses.

Bar Association Mafia

Nagananda Kodituwakku
logoBar Association of Sri Lanka in its website displays the following quotation taken from the United Nations Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers:
“Governments shall ensure that lawyers are able to perform all of their professional functions without intimidation, hindrance, harassment or improper interference”
However, following the same path of those who are holding office in the Legislature and Executive who pledge people to perform public office faithfully with due respect to the Constitution and the rule of law but practice completely the opposite, the Bar Association too simply follows the suit. It pledges to honour the independence of the judiciary, the Rule of Law and Administration of justice sans interference, whilst promoting the honorable practice of law in reality it simply acts as a self-centered mafia style organization.
In this country it is an undeniable fact that the Judiciary is under tremendous pressure from the Executive and the Legislature.  And politicians in the caliber of Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe openly ridicule and undermine the authority of the judiciary and claims that the Parliament is supreme over the judiciary, and it has no authority to exercise the judicial power, except through the parliament. His disparaging statement goes as follows.
“… Supreme Court does not even have to exercise the judicial power of the people and it does not have power to violate the basic tenets of the Constitution, which the Supreme Court has been unfortunately doing in the last decade… and it is acting as a dictator… ” (Parliamentary Hansard of 07th July 2016).
When a person holding a high profile public office makes such an intimidatory statement against the judiciary that exercises people’s judicial power citizenry expect the Bar Association, the professional body of lawyers to defend the judiciary, which however never occurs in this island nation.
Yet, there is a national need to uphold the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law without which no democracy can survive and this is what exactly has happened in the Republic Sri Lanka. It is a proven fact that no one in authority takes judiciary seriously due to unforgivablelapses on the part of the judiciary permitting the other two organs to ridicule it. Not just once but many times over, the Executive President and the Prime Minister of the present regime have undermined the authority of the judiciary pointing the finger at the Chief Justice who had pleaded for favours from the Executive promising to deliver judgments favoring the government and appointing judges according to the wishes of the Executive.
The statement made by the Prime Minister in the Parliament on 30th Jan 2017 about the despicable conduct of the Chief Justice Mohan Peiris who had sought favours to remain in office with promises to make judgments to please the Executive and also to appoint the judges as per the directions of the Executive, the details of which were fully reported in the Parliamentary Hansard dated 30th Jan 2015 is one of the best examples. Subsequently the Executive President himself reaffirmed this statement referring to the favours sought by the Chief Justice Mohan Peiris. The media gave maximum publicity to this improper, insulting, intolerable and unbecoming behavior of the Chief Justice that patently violated the public trust doctrine. Yet, due to the dismal failure of the rule of law in this country, so far no disciplinary proceedings have been instituted against the lawyer Mohan Peiris. And despite a credible complaint with all relevant information presented to the CIABOC, it too has miserably failed to uphold the rule of law and to initiate action to prosecute Mohan Peiris and other judges of the Apex Court who have been charged for judicial corruption. This dismal failure on the part of the CIABOC has on 26th Sep 2017 afforded the Supreme Court an opportunity to take up the position that those charges against the judges are not well-founded.

Matara Pinsiri‘s ‘Women’s Raja kalkaya’’ as a remedy for corruption - The chronic ailment !

LEN logo
(Lanka-e-News- 27.Sep.2017, 11.55PM) Ancient Ayurveda doctors of the South  used Sri Buddha Raja kalkaya (pills)  dissolved  in lime juice to purify bood ,  cure stomach ailments , phlegm conditions and every disease . Now minister Mangala Pinsiri Samaraweera from the South is trying out a novel method to cleanse the Institutions which have  earned the disrepute hitherto as most corrupt . He is employing women as chiefs at the ministry instead of men who were the chiefs before.
The minister appointed Ms. K. Helen A. Meegasmulla who has 32 years experience in the public service as the Commissioner of the Excise department pursuing  the new theory . She is the first female commissioner of that department . Ms. P.S.M.  Charles another female public servant has been appointed  as the new Director General of the SL Customs department . This is the first time a woman has been appointed to that post . She is a Tamil National and a senior public servant .Prior to this appointment she was  the District secretary, Batticaloa.
Both the Excise department and the Customs department have always been a  safe haven to rogues as they  had a whale of a time in those places. People are hoping  just as Helen and Charles are , that  the popular belief  anybody who joins  those Institutions too becomes a rogue can be proved baseless with the new changes.
Sri Lanka produced the first woman prime minister and the first woman president , yet no woman occupied the posts aforementioned . It is therefore hoped this  double  will boost the image of the two Institutions instead of doubling the  troubles already existing.
It is well to recall ,after the advent of the present government , a woman was appointed as the Director General of the Bribery and Corruption Commission. While she was discharging her duties conscientiously and like an ‘Iron lady’, she brought  notorious elusive Gotabaya  before court . Over this action the president Maithripala flew into a rage , and after his deplorable ‘cyanide speech’ created an environment which made her to quit the post. Now whether the Commission is dead or alive is even not known. Since  this is the situation prevailing in the country, Helen and Charles may have to exercise caution.
The poison of the serpents that gobble eggs is well  known, but the poison of serpents that gobble hoppers is not known yet , nor has any research been done  on it.
In any event this “Women’s Raja  kalka’’ medicine had not been a cure in every situation. A case in point was the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue department  who   was also a  woman but a misfit.

Wasim Thajudeen Case: Comprehensive investigation into calls made the night of the murder

Lakmal Sooriyagoda-Thursday, September 28, 2017
The Attorney General today informed Court that the CID conducting investigations into the murder of former rugby player Wasim Thajudeen has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the telephone calls received by Narahenpita police from the phones belonging to the Presidential Secretariat Office on the night of May 17, 2012 when Thajudeen’s murder took place.
Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake appearing for the Attorney General made this observation when the magisterial inquiry into murder of Wasim Thajudeen was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
When case came up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Jeyram Trotsky, two suspects former Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake and former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Champika Perera were present in Courts. They were arrested over their alleged role in the cover up of evidence in the former rugby player Wasim Thajudeen murder and conspiring to commit the murder. They are currently out on bail.
The CID sought a further date to submit the progress of the investigation into the incident. Further magisterial inquiry fixed for November 8.
On July 27, 2015 the CID submitted to Court that the death of Thajudeen was not an accident but a murder.
While delivering the verdict, former Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris on February 25, 2016 ruled that the death appeared to be a murder and ordered the CID Director to immediately arrest all suspects involved in the incident and produce them before Courts.
Thajudeen was killed, apparently, in a road accident in Colombo on May 17, 2012. The CID had informed court that investigations conducted so far had revealed that Thajudeen’s teeth had been broken, the bones in the pelvic region also broken and his neck pierced with a sharp instrument prior to his death.
The CID added that muscles in his legs had been cut with a piece of a broken class. Earlier, police maintained that Thajudeen was driving to the airport and had lost control of his car and crashed into the wall of Shalika Grounds at Park Road, Narahenpita, and that his vehicle had exploded within seconds of the crash.

Astrologers predict President will descend into ‘dog mark’ category in 4 months! - Therefore seeks to push through sordid warship deal before that !

LEN logo(Lanka-e-News - 28.Sep.2017, 11.00PM) Maithripala Sirisena , exactly four months from now ,based on  his horoscope   is  going to drop  down into  the category of ‘dog mark’ , his astrologers have categorically predicted. Hence , before he becomes canine in form and feature he is making desperate and diabolic  moves to gobble up his Lion’s share in the ‘warship deal’  based on reports reaching Lanka e news inside information division.
This Kili Maharaja –president’s son in law (outlaw) warship deal even surpasses the colossal MiG jets racket of Gotabaya owing to its  magnitude and the monumental  selfish illicit financial gains that will line the pockets of those involved  . The cabinet paper relating to this president’s son in law –Kili Maharaja deal was to be tabled before the cabinet some days ago , but following the recent  LeN exposure on this traitorous deal , it was not taken up , and put on hold.
During the cabinet media briefing yesterday (27) , when a journalist questioned minister Rajitha Senaratne ,the spokesman for the cabinet on this controversial deal , whether the Navy Commander’s service is to be terminated within  a month  because he opposed this deal ? the  minister dodged the issue without giving  a direct answer .
He explained , there is a cabinet tender board governing purchases made by the government , and if the decision thereof is not acceptable  , there is an appeal board to make an appeal. A majority of those who mount charges of corruption against a transaction are those who have made bids for the tender and failed. However ,Rajitha did not directly make any mention about the corrupt warship deal or the conspiracy under way to oust the Navy commander because he opposed this colossal racket.
Lanka e news which exposed this sordid transaction that is tantamount to high treason wishes  to make this shocking revelation  : No local ,international or an equivalent tender bid had been called pertaining to this warship deal . If any such tender bids had been called duly ,we  challenge to reveal that.
In addition , a most reputed powerful minister of the government cum former officer of the forces is enraged over the conspiracy that is under way which flouts all traditions and laws to oust the recently appointed  Navy Commander Travis Sinniah from his post within just three months (send him on retirement) after he assumed office. When the defense secretary was asked about this, he had said , president Maithripala who treats appointing and sending on retirement a  commander of the forces as a trifling issue is not at all suitable for the post of president .  Hitherto no president acted this selfishly and traitorously to sacrifice commanders of the forces at the altar of their  selfish sordid gains , and steer through illicit deals . This does not augur well for the country and is to place the country in dire jeopardy.
It is therefore no wonder Maithripala ‘s astrologers had told him , definitely in  four months that is after January 2018 ,he is going to descend into the ‘dog mark’ category , and that is inevitable . They have also advised him , therefore to make the best use of his present position by  resorting to all the  subterfuges and camouflages. It is said , the book ‘President father’ under his daughter’s name  but in fact written by another, to fulfill his  desire to write his   biography too was published  ahead because of this impending disaster  . It is owing to the same reason , he is along with his son in law Thilina Sampath and Kili Maharaja expediting this warship deal , sources say. Based on reports , president’s son in law has already opened four accounts in Singapore to credit the massive commissions he is expecting from this deal.( The account numbers shall be revealed at a later date).

Sri Lanka: Demand for Arrest of Monks

Following article based on an open letter by the authors to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, ‘Demand for arrest of monks who resorted to violence against Rohingya refugees using hate speech’

by Kusal Perera and Anton Marcus-
( September 28, 2017, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) We do not intend going into details of the violent and inhuman protest on 26 September (2017) led by Buddhist monks against Rohingya refugees who were sheltered in a ‘safehouse’ in Mt.Lavinia by the Colombo office of the UNHRC. An incident, we are certain you are well briefed about. This racially motivated violent incident brought international disrepute and proved the government is uncertain in stopping such hate mongering violent protests when led by Buddhist monks.
Except for Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Rajitha Senaratne who in their personal capacities, were very vocal in condemning the extremist Buddhist monks and their violent racist thuggery, we are yet to see the government officially and with authority intervening in clearing doubts on the Rohingya refugee issue, the anti Muslim extremist groups have been campaigning on distorted and wrong information.
As we understand, it is the reluctance of your government in enforcing law against violent racist protesters that has allowed extremist hate campaigns to take to streets once again as they did during the Rajapaksa era. It is the reluctance of your government and the Minister for Law and Order to give clear and firm directives to the police, that has allowed the police to act in favour of violent racist protesters, as they did on 26 September, when they took a detention order against the “refugees” and shifted them to the Boossa detention centre, instead of arresting the hate mongering protesting Buddhist monks.
It is frustrating and disturbing to see total silence on the part of the government that promised law and order, democracy and good governance, in allowing law enforcement agencies to violate the rights of the refugees and avoid taking action against hate mongering violent groups who create a
social mind-set that would never allow any degree of reconciliation in this country.
We therefore demand that you immediately direct your minister in charge of law and order and the IGP to arrest those who are responsible for breach of peace, acted violently against Rohingya refugees and resorted to a hate mongering campaign against minorities, especially the Muslim community and also make a public statement to set the records straight as regards Rohingya refugees and the responsibility of the government in assisting the UNHRC in its work with refugees.

It has been reported that the Acting IGP has instructed the Colombo Crimes Division to probe the incident that ensued on September 26, when a group of radical monks and activists violently threatened 31 Rohingya refugees who were residing in a safe house in Mount Lavinia.
A group of activists along with several radical monks surrounded a residence that was being occupied by Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. The mob staged violent protests condemning the government for allowing the refugees to seek sanctuary in Sri Lanka.
The situation intensified until the refugees were transferred to the Boossa detention camp under Police protection for their own safety.
The Sri Lankan government on Wednesday (Sep 27) slammed a group of radical Buddhist monks who attacked Rohingya refugees in Mount Lavinia, pledging action against police who failed to protect them.
Co-cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said the government condemned Tuesday’s storming of a UN safe house where 31 Rohingya refugees, including 16 children and seven women, had been given shelter.
“As a Buddhist I am ashamed at what happened,” Senaratne told reporters. “Mothers carrying very young children were forced out of their safe house which was attacked by a mob led by a handful of monks,” he said.
The mob broke down the gates of the multi-storied building near the capital Colombo, smashing windows and furniture as frightened refugees huddled together upstairs.
There were no reports of casualties among the refugees, who were later taken to another location, but two police officers were wounded and admitted to hospital.
Senaratne said police had been ordered to take disciplinary action against officers found to have failed to control the mob.
“This is not what the Buddha taught. We have to show compassion to these refugees. These monks who carried out the attacks are actually not monks, but animals,” he said.
The 31 Rohingya refugees were rescued by the Sri Lankan navy five months ago after they were found drifting in a boat off the island’s northern coast
They had been living in India for several years before leaving a refugee camp in Tamil Nadu state.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees expressed alarm over Tuesday’s attack and urged Sri Lankans to show empathy for civilians fleeing persecution and violence.
Almost half a million Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar for Bangladesh since Aug 25.
They have been the target of decades of state-backed persecution and discrimination in the mainly Buddhist country, where many view them as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
Accordingly, Acting DIG Ajith Rohana instructed the CCD to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident to apprehend the responsible individuals.

Additional Secretary To Women’s Affairs Ministry Supports Rohingya Carnage

Despite worldwide condemnations against the violence unleashed on the Rohingya people including women and children, a senior official attached to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs has openly expressed her support to the ongoing violence by sharing memes on her personal Facebook page.
Just hours after thugs and monks stormed the UN safe house in Mount Lavinia, (Ms.) Ashoka Alawatte, the Additional Secretary (Development) at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs has shared a meme which shows Aung San Suu Kyi, the head of Myanmar’s government saying she will not bow down her head to international pressure and she will defeat Rohingya terrorism. The meme in Sinhalese also goes on to approve the ongoing carnage saying; “here’s a real woman, who is better than a thousand spineless men.”
A Facebook user who saw the post expressed his shock, saying that this was highly unbecoming from a government official and that too from a woman who is attached to the women’s affairs ministry, who is openly supporting the killings of women and children in Myanmar.
Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) today expressed its concern and alarm at yesterday’s incident at the refugee shelter which housed mostly women and children.
Meanwhile there has been no official statement or condemnation from the government even though it has been over 24 hours since the incident in Mount Lavinia took place. However, Finance Minister Managala Samaraweera and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne had condemned the incident on a personal capacity. Sagala Ratnayaka, the minister of law and order is yet to issue a statement on the incident. Despite the lawlessness by the monks and the thugs, the police yesterday did not arrest a single monk or thug for their unruly behavior.

The Sri Lankan government has slammed a group of radical Buddhist monks who attacked Rohingya refugees as 'animals', pledging action against police who failed to protect them.

Rajitha Senaratne, a cabinet spokesman, said the government condemned Tuesday's storming of a UN safe house where 31 Rohingya refugees, including 16 children and seven women, had been given shelter.

'As a Buddhist I am ashamed at what happened,' Senaratne told reporters.

'Mothers carrying very young children were forced out of their safe house which was attacked by a mob led by a handful of monks,' he said.

There were no reports of casualties among the refugees, who were later taken to another location, but two police officers were wounded and admitted to hospital.

Senaratne said police had been ordered to take disciplinary action against officers found to have failed to control the mob.

'This is not what the Buddha taught. We have to show compassion to these refugees. These monks who carried out the attacks are actually not monks, but animals,' he said.

Sri Lanka's extremist Buddhist monks have close links with their ultra-nationalist counterparts in Myanmar. Both have been accused of orchestrating violence against minority Muslims in the two countries.

One of the monks who stormed the building posted a video on Facebook filmed by his radical group Sinhale Jathika Balamuluwa (Sinhalese National Force) as he urged others to join him and smash the premises.

'These are Rohingya terrorists who killed Buddhist monks in Myanmar,' the monk said in his live commentary, pointing to Rohingya mothers with small children in their arms.
