22 October 2015

British government ministers reiterated their backing of a United Nations Human Rights Council resolution on Sri Lanka and the importance of its implementation for truth telling and accountability on the island.
Speaking at an event organized on the fringes of the Conservative Party conference earlier this month, Leader of the House of Commons Chris Grayling voiced his support for the resolution, whilst  Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party Robert Halfon said what had happened to the Tamil people was genocide.
Chair of the APPG for Tamils and MP for Kingston James Berry, MP for Sutton Paul Scully, MP for Romford and British Tamil Conservatives Vice-President Andrew Rosindell, MP for Wimbledon Stephen Hammond, MP for Farnham Suella Fernandez and MEP Charles Tannock also welcomed the UN resolution, stressing the importance of justice for the Tamil people.

Also in attendance was Zac Goldsmith, the MP for Richmond and Conservative Mayoral candidate who reiterated the need to ensure Tamils live their lives in safety.

Jaffna Hospital marks 28th anniversary of IPKF massacre
21 October 2015
Staff at Jaffna Hospital held a memorial ceremony to mark the 28th anniversary of the massacre of over 60 doctors, staff and patients by the Indian Peacekeeping Forces (IPKF) in 1987.

Staff members laid down flowers before photographs of those killed on Wednesday, included three then leading medical specialists, Dr A. Sivapathasuntharam, Dr K. Parimelalahar and Dr K. Ganesharatnan.
According to eye witness reports, the hospital was shelled on the morning of the 21st of October 1987, before IPKF troops threw grenades and fired indiscriminately at the civilian staff and patients, before storming the hospital building.

The following morning, staff who tried to surrender were fired upon before further IPKF soldiers stormed the building and ordered ten members of staff out of the building. The bodies of all ten were found later the same day.

Who is causing the delay in taking action against corruption– Wasantha Samarasinghe

Who is causing the delay in taking action against corruption– Wasantha Samarasinghe

Lankanewsweb.netOct 22, 2015
The anti corruption voice today made a visit to the office of Anti Corruption Committee today the 22nd to check the progress of the complaints made so far. The convener of the anti corruption voice and provincial council minister Wasantha Samarasinghe and his team joined this.

Wasantha Samarasinghe gave the following opinion after the meeting
From last February we have submitted many complaints to the secretary of the Anti Corruption Committee about plundering public property, illegal financial frauds and large financial misappropriations. We came to day to check what has happened to those complaints. We met the
director and discussed about the progress they have made about the complaints. They gave us an action report of the progress they have made. According to the report they have sent all complaints with the evidences to the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) and FCID
(Financial Crime Investigation Department)
According to the list many complaints have gone to the CID, FCID and to the Commission against Bribery and Corruption. It is being many months now the complaints with evidences has been sent but so far nothing has happened. We questioned the committee what is the action you are supposed to take now. They told us they have sent all these information’s to the relevant institutions and waiting for their feedback. We made these complaints to the anti corruption committee not only to hand over those to the relevant institutions. The anti corruption committee should check the progress of the complaints made to those institutions.
Some politicians who are alleged for these corruptions are now holding ministerial ositions in the current Good Governance. What is the reason behind not taking actions against them? We continuously questioned regarding this last few weeks. We wish to know who instructs the committee not to take actions or delay the actions taken against the complaints forwarded to the CID and the FCID. Meantime what is the reason for the complaints not to go beyond the Attorney General? The Attorney General is under the justice minister. CID and the FCID are under the purview of the IGP. Therefore the justice minister and the IGP is directly responsible for this. Meantime the cabinet heads that is the Prime Minister and the President too should hold responsibility for this.

Mr. Champika Ranawaka, the ministerial authority for the Megapolis, has announced that the work on the Colombo Port City is to be resumed soon after renegotiating the contract with the Chinese authorities. The project has been halted by the present government due to the irregularities found in the contract.
The government will not encounter any serious problem in rectifying the illegality of the contract and any irregularity can even be regularized if necessary by enacting new laws in the parliament.
What is to be pointed here is the unresolved and the most crucial matter of the entire Colombo Poet City project is the prevention of threats to the environment. It is to this that there is a lack of concern. If the authorities decide to go ahead with the project, the marine resources and the fish breeding grounds and corals will be seriously affected, due to the heavy extraction amounting to 100 million tons of sand from the sea. This will cause depletion of rich fishing grounds resulting in livelihood problems to thousands of fishermen living in the western coast.
It also need to be pointed out that around 16 million metric tons of granite has to be found from the interior of the country to reclaim the sea to construct the Colombo Port City. What would be the impact of such human activity on the water resources, flora and fauna and other various species living in the rock hill environment.
Port CityWe can appreciate the recent statement that President Maithri made at the the 9th Annual Summit of the Institute of Environmental Professionals of Sri Lanka (IEPSL), held today (Oct. 20) at Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla, at which he assured that “the government would take legal actions against those who destroy the environment, irrespective of their status”.                              Read More

When we open a stadium will the hospitals be shut down?– Ranjith Siyambalapitiya

Lankanewsweb.net- Oct 22, 2015
Minister of electricity and energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said, “The people of Kegalle are very happy that their dream of a fully occupied playground and a swimming pool for this district has come true. There is an old saying that if one school is opened 100 prisons would be closed. Meantime if one play ground is opened how many hospitals would be closed. How many hospital beds would be reduced? Sports are so essential for our health”

He made this comments today 22nd when he came to lay the foundation stone for the construction of the new sports complex in the Kegalle district. Rs. 218.46 million has been estimated for the construction of a fully equipped indoor stadium, a 400m track pavilion, a 25m length swimming pool and a modern facility audience stand. Instructions has been given to relevant institutions to construct all these within one year
Expressing his opinion minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said The fame and the reputation brought by sports are very helpful to shape the success of our life. A Sport is a guidance to successfully face life’s obstacles and challenges. We are trying to give that guidance to the children’s of this district.
This is a unique concept started by the previous regime. We should continue the good things forward. Politicians who worked in two divisions during the former regime has now come together as a national government and trying to give an unimaginable gift to the children’s
living in the Kegalle district. It is very important to praise whatever is jointly done.
Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, deputy minister H.M.M. Haris, parliament MP’s, Provincial council members and many people representatives participated.
A dilemma: Security personnel placed in business enterprises

I cannot tip a soldier in uniform who carries my luggage to a  hotel room. My conscience does not allow it and he commands a  better respect from me.

I was in Trincomalee last weekend along with a media colleague and my wife. We had several engagements with some provincial journalists in this beautiful eastern port city which was once the hot-bed of the ethnic conflict. It has now become one of the most strikingly attractive cities with its natural outlook drawing tourists. The city was clean and well managed; it seems to have been prepared for an economic boom.

Govt. Would Not Hesitate To Punish Gota: Ranil

Colombo Telegraph
October 22, 2015
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told parliament yesterday that despite reports to the contrary, the Attorney General was not obstructing investigations into the Avant Garde case.
The Premier said; on the AG’s advise a current probe by the CID was focusing on whether the Avant GardeCompany had committed any offence under the Money Laundering Act.
2104Ranil wickramasinghe_2JWickremesinghe in response to a question raised by the Chief whip cum JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the controversial Avant Garde case, said that the government was not trying to sweep it under the carpet.
Instead, the Premier promised that the government will do its utmost to bring perpetrators to book, if any offence has been committed.
Explaining matters further, the Premier noted that the Defence Ministry has documents to prove that in September 2012 the then Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa had given approval to maintain a floating armoury in international waters, but not a floating armoury at the Galle Port.

The Premier admitted that most of the firearms found inside the floating armoury in Galle Port did not have local licenses issued by the Defence Ministry and instead they had foreign serial numbers.
He went on to say that firearms found within the country’s territory should contain a valid license issued by the Defence Secretary under the Firearms Ordinance.
However, the Premier failed to explain why the AG had instructed the CID to probe the Avant Garde case under the money laundering act while discarding possible violations of the firearms ordinance, if the weapons found at the floating armoury at Galle port did not have valid local licenses.
Despite this fact the Premier went on to say that the government would not hesitate to punish anyone including the former Defence Secretary if found guilty to any wrongdoing.Read More

A modern luxury rugby court found on the basement of the Presidents House

A modern luxury rugby court found on the basement of the Presidents House

Lankanewsweb.netOct 22, 2015
President Maithripala Sirisena showed a group of school children’s who visited to see the president’s House today the luxury rugby court situated in the basement of the President’s House.

President Maithripala told the group of children who came to attend an environment pilot programme to the President House to see the rugby court situated in the basement.
The president said that he don’t wish to use the President’s House as his official residence is due to the 15million of electricity bill per month. He said apart this there is another three million electricity bill for the underground rugby court.
This underground modern construction was built by the Rajapaksa’s. This has been constructed as a modern luxury fully air conditioned rugby court. A part of this is constructed externally and the whole building is constructed to be 24 hours fully air conditioned despite a power cut. The former president has not used this president’s Palace as his official residence but only used for his official diplomatic meetings.
According to the workers in the Presidet’s Hpuse this palace has been used by Namal Rajapaksa and his rugby pals. Therefore this underground palace is named as the Rugby Palace.
It is regrettable to note that the former president used billion of money of the country for the construction of luxury mansions of his sons.

Like MaRas aren’t Sira (serious) to the people, Siras aren’t Maara Porawal (fabulous beings ) to them; Maithri abuses all and sundry on behalf of bro

LEN logo(Lanka-e-News -22.Oct.2015, 7.00PM) Following the exposure that Kumarasinghe Sirisena the younger brother of president Maithripala Sirisena is attempting to raise his monthly salary to Rs. 10 million , it is reported that the president  instead of reforming and  correcting his brother , is phoning all those whom he suspects as  passing information to Lanka e news , and abusing in filth.
For the information of the president however , none of those  who fell victim to the filth and foul abuse  of the president has passed any information to Lanka  e news . It is most regretful that the very president who was steered to his present position by us , is resorting to this base deplorable  conduct.
A newly appointed director who attended the meeting of Telecom  Director board to which Kumarasinghe Sirisena presented a paper to increase his salary , had been severely taken to task by the president , and scolded in President’s  choicest language  .
In addition , president Maithripala fearing that the media may report these clandestine moves has compelled the media  not to report anything pertaining to his younger brother, based on reports.
In this political climate , it is very clear that Maithripala too is stooping to the lowliest levels or even lower than that of former president Mahinda Rajapakse after fiercely criticizing him in the open . Pallewatte  Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena  Maithripala who was very proud of the word ‘Maithri’ (compassion)  in his name seems to be tumbling  down from that lofty ‘Maithri’ into the filthy  pit of his Palle(ha)watte, also his name.

Who is the fool that cries for the udder from a cow stealer ?

When some other media inquired from Kumarasinghe Sirisena about his attempts to increase his  salary to Rs. ten million which was exposed by Lanka e news , he had said in his defense that Lanka e news asked for a Rs. 4 million SLT advertisement from him , and because he declined , Lanka e news is avenging this refusal.
After the ban on Lanka e news was lifted , of course requests for advertisements were made by us via letters not only to SLT , but a hundred establishments. Of course , any media establishment requesting for advertisements is nothing uncommon . But Kumarasinghe ‘s  revelation  that Lanka e news wanted a Rs. 4 million advertisement from him is an absolute  lie. Lanka e news has not written even an alphabet to request for advertisements from Kumarasinghe , let alone a letter. If we had , we challenge him to reveal that. Since the day Kumarasinghe became the chairman of SLT , we at Lanka e news had been exposing inside out his misdeeds and malpractices. Therefore , we should be unhinged if we are to ask for the udder from a cow stealer.
After acting in the best interests of the nation even sacrificing the benefits we could have gained  through  concealing Kumarasinghe’s unscrupulous and deceitful nature , surely , we should be insane if we are  to make any request to him to help us . The only request we can make is to help him  - to mend his own ways  for the sake of his president brother and the people of good governance who elected Maithripala Sirisena as the president.
The fact of the matter is , the SLT for five long years forbade Lanka  e news without any valid legal  reason denying its readers access to it . Therefore SLT should be held  liable to pay compensation in millions to the readers  for the wrongful action.
Very soon , the day will arrive when the people based on violations of human rights , local laws and international laws will  claim compensation for banning Lanka e news without rhyme or reason unlawfully thereby precluding its Sri Lankan  readers from access to it , despite payments made by them to Telecom for internet facilities.
May we emphasize, like how Kumarasinghes cannot become singhes (lions) before people, and  when MaRas aren’t  Sira (Serious) to the people,  Siras can’t be  Maara  porawal ( fabulous beings)  to them

Top CEB officials get lavish Rs.10m foreign

training tour

2015-10-23
Controversy surrounds a lavish Rs.10.4 million foreign training tour, to be indulged in by 11 top level officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board, in Vienna, Austria in November this year, despite a recent government circular to minimise the use of state funds.

The group, comprising seven CEB deputy general managers, three chief engineers and an accountant will participate in a six-day training workshop in Vienna from November 9 to 13.

The workshop will be conducted on Certified Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for Professional and Practitioner for a fee of US$ 76,620 (Rs.10.4 million).

CEB inside sources told Daily Mirror that this was an ‘utter’ waste of state funds, as such a training course could easily be conducted in Sri Lanka for much less.

It could even be arranged for a foreign instructor to conduct a workshop here for just US$ 100 per trainee, they said.

Moreover, two or three of the officers are to retire at the beginning of 2016, and spending such a vast sum on training those who will retire in two months is appalling.

The sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said the CEB management had ignored government circular No. CSA/9/3/(i) issued by the Presidential Secretariat on October 1 (and based on a Cabinet decision of 16. 09. 2015) to minimise the use of state funds.

Also, a letter from the secretary to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy -- to the CEB and six other departments -- had referred to the Cabinet decision to reduce foreign trips and tours of state officials.

Responding to the allegations, CEB General Manager M. C. Wickramasekara said that if staff training was deemed necessary by a selection committee, it had to be carried out regardless.

The GM said any CEB union was welcome to sit down and discuss such matters with him. (Kurulu Koojana Kariyakarawana) - See more at: http://www.dailymirror.lk/92269/top-ceb-officials-get-lavish-rs-10m-foreign-training-tour#sthash.wxCPvjsl.dpuf

Who gives Mahinda the lists of those summoned by FCID?

Who gives Mahinda the lists of those summoned by FCID?

Lankanewsweb.netOct 22, 2015
It is a big question for top police officials as to how the lists of names of persons being summoned by the FCID each day, go to former president Mahinda Rajapaksa early every morning, say sources at the police department.

They believe the ex-president is getting the lists through a very top person in their department.
After receiving the list each day, Rajapaksa has a discussion with a team of lawyers led by president’s counsel Kalinga Indatissa about the background of each person and the impact of their statements to the FCID, say sources close to the former president. Thereafter, Indatissa calls them and threatens them, telling them to meet him with at least Rs. 2.5 million in hand if he is to represent them. Lawyers are strongly criticizing this mischief by Indatissa.
IGP N.K. Illangakoon is keeping a close watch on the investigations being carried out by the FCID. On the day ex-MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena was summoned, he ordered FCID officers to obtain a statement from him and release him thereafter. He is very angry that FCID officers have gone against his order and sent Sajin Vaas into remand custody. The IGP is openly supporting the MPs who claim the FCID to be illegal and want it disbanded.
The IGP is dreaming that a Rajapaksa era will return during his tenure. ASP Ariyapala received a transfer on the IGP’s order after he summoned senior DIG S.M. Wickremesinghe to the CID over the Angunukolapelessa pistol incident, but the ASP got it cancelled through the support of several lawyers loyal to the government.
Instead of being a support to FCID and CID investigations, the IGP has become a hurdle, say top officials in the department.

Israeli settlers want New York police tactics in Jerusalem

Israeli police detain a Palestinian youth in Jerusalem’s Old City on 12 October.
 Oren ZivActiveStills

Israeli settlers in occupied Jerusalem are urging the authorities to step up their harassment of Palestinians by introducing New York-style law enforcement tactics.
In an attempt to crush Palestinian resistance, the settlers want to see a “zero tolerance” policy pursued, under which stiff penalties would be imposed on anyone defying Israel’s orders.

Talmudic Extremism Incites Genocide Against Palestinians

Citing the Torah, Jewish rabbi calls for Genocide against Palestinians, urging Jews to "show them no mercy".

Rabbi Yisrael Rosen -Photo courtesy: care2.com
Rabbi Yisrael RosenOct-21-2015 15
(SALEM, Ore.) - "All of the Palestinians must be killed; men, women, infants, and even their beasts” Rabbi Yisrael Rosen, the director of the Tsomet Religious Institute, relentlessly stated - issuing a religious edict permitting the genocide of Palestinians.

“Annihilate the Amalekites from the beginning to the end. Kill them and wrest them from their possessions. Show them no mercy. Kill continuously, one after the other... Leave no child, plant, or tree. Kill their beasts, from camels to donkeys..."

Rosen cited the Torah, claiming that Amalekites are not a specific race. He came to the conclusion that Jewish jurisprudence rules in favor of killing Palestinians in cold blood.

And that's exactly what the Israelis are doing in Gaza, the West Bank, and the occupied city of al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Yet Rosen was not a lone wolf. In fact, there is an entire pack.

Widespread Radicalism

Haaretz newspaper listed several names of rabbis and Israeli officials who overtly support this ideology of hatred: "At the head of those supporting his opinion is Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, the leading religious authority in Israel's religious national current and former chief Eastern rabbi for Israel.

"Rosen's opinion also has the support of Rabbi Dov Lior, president of the Council of Rabbis of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), and Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, the chief rabbi of Safed and a candidate for the post of chief rabbi of Israel.

"A number of political leaders in Israel have also shown enthusiasm for the opinion, including Ori Lubiansky, head of the Jerusalem municipality."

On May 30th, 2007 The Jerusalem Post published an article titled “Eliyahu advocates carpet bombing Gaza,” in which it reported that one of the most senior Zionist theocrats “ruled that there was absolutely no moral prohibition against the indiscriminate killing of civilians during a potential massive military offensive on Gaza.”

It revealed that Mordechai issued this ruling in a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert citing biblical authority and was also distributed across synagogues stating that: “According to Jewish war ethics, wrote Eliyahu, an entire city holds collective responsibility for the immoral behavior of individuals.

In Gaza, the entire populace is responsible because they do nothing to stop the firing of Kassam rockets.”

This is called collective punishment and under international law this is a war crime.
Like father like son. Eliayahu’s son, Shmuel Eliayhu, chief rabbi of Safad, echoed his father's extremism and stepped it up a notch (or 100,000) by inciting the continued killing of Palestinians.
“If they don’t stop after we kill 100, then we must kill a thousand... And if they do not stop after 1,000 then we must kill 10,000. If they still don’t stop we must kill 100,000, even a million. Whatever it takes to make them stop,” he argued.

This kind of blood-spilling loathing toward Palestinians is not only inherited in the Israeli-occupied territories but also contagious.

It is up to rabbis to issue rulings and for the rest of Israelis to follow them. The "ideology of annihilation" is deep-rooted in Israeli society. Scholars, politicians, soldiers, and settlers are staunch believers in the genocidal targeting of Palestinians.

Here are a few examples of Israelis who have openly called for and religiously justified massacring Palestinians.

The “extermination of the enemy is sanctioned by the Torah,” said Eli Yeshai, Israeli official in the Orthodox Shas party.

"The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way: Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle)," said Chabad rabbi Mani Friedman.

Nachman Abramovic, Israeli spokesman also said, "They may look young to you, but these people are terrorists at heart. Don’t look at their deceptively innocent faces, try to think of the demons inside each of them ...I am absolutely certain these people would grow to be evil terrorists if we allowed them to grow ...We do kill human animals and we do so unapologetically.

"Besides who in the West is in a position to lecture us on killing human animals. After all, whose hands are clean?”

Demographics of extremism

In 2015, a Gallup survey estimated that around 30.5 of Israelis define themselves as religious while the rest were either secular or not very religious.

According to a study conducted by the Social Sciences Department of Bar Elon University, "more than 90 per cent of those who identify as religious believe that if state laws and government orders are incongruous with the content of religious opinions issued by rabbis, they must overlook the former and act in accordance with the latter."

This shows how Israelis regard rabbis' instructions as being above the law.

Genocide

In 2014, the Israeli regime launched a brutal war against the Gaza Strip.
Gaza is still bearing the wounds of the war that lasted 51 days but the consequences of which will last much longer. More than 2,300 Palestinians have been killed, 100,000 have been left homeless, and much of the strip remained in ruins.

Israeli warplanes had targeted residential areas, hospitals, journalists, and a large number of the victims were Palestinian children.

The massacre in the Shujaeya district is one example of attempted genocide as the UN Protection Cluster confirmed that in 3 days, at least 55 civilians including 19 children and 14 women, were slaughtered by the Israeli regime.

The Israeli regime is built on the teachings of Talmudic extremism. Zionists believe they are God's chosen people. Their ethnocentricity drives them to believe that they are pure-blooded which allows them to spill the blood of other human beings.

This ideology which is taught to Zionists as of early age plants the seeds of hatred and an affinity to commit crimes against humanity, particularly Palestinians, proves that the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinians are religiously-motivated.
