People With This Blood Type Are At Greater Risk For Memory Loss In Later Life

People with an extremely rare blood type could be at a higher risk for developing memory problems later in life. A new study published in the journal Neurology says people with AB blood type could be up to 82 percent more likely to develop problems with cognition and memory as they age.

Researchers examined data from a study of over 30,000 people aged 45 and up. They identified a cohort of 495 people who developed memory or cognitive impairment over approximately three-and-a-half years. The participants were given four cognitive tests over the course of the study. They were compared to a similar group of 587 adults who did not have any signs of memory problems.

While only 4 percent of the U.S. population has AB blood, 6 percent of the cohort with memory problems had this blood type. Researchers concluded that in this study people with AB blood type were 82 percent more likely to develop thinking and memory problems than people with any of the three other blood types.

Interestingly enough, the researchers also discovered that people with higher levels of factor VIII, a protein which helps clot blood, were almost a quarter more likely to have cognitive problems than those with lower levels. People with blood type AB were generally found to have higher levels of the protein than others.

"Our study looks at blood type and risk of cognitive impairment, but several studies have shown that factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes increase the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia," study author Mary Cushman of the University of Vermont said in a release. "Blood type is also related to other vascular conditions like stroke, so the findings highlight the connections between vascular issues and brain health. More research is needed to confirm these results."

As Cushman mentioned, other studies have looked at the link between blood types and increased likelihood of certain diseases. A 2012 study conducted by Harvard University researchers concluded that AB blood types have a 23 percent higher chance of developing coronary heart disease compared to O blood types. And in line with researchers finding that AB blood types have higher levels of factor VIII, a study from 2013 found because of this, those people are at a higher risk for developing dangerous blood clots.

So what if you have AB blood type? Don't panic, experts say. Head of Alzheimer's Research UK, Simon Ridley said the study did not look at the direct link between blood type and dementia. "Current evidence suggests the best ways to keep the brain healthy are a balanced diet, not smoking and regular exercise," Ridley told the BBC.

jennifer white  Tucson, Arizona Sign Jennifer’s petition In Bay Village, Ohio, a group of high school students tricked their 14-year-old autistic classmate into doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Instead of filling the bucket with ice water they filled it with feces, urine, spit and cigarette butts and dumped the bucket from a roof onto the special needs teen.  This is a horrific act of degradation and violence.  It is so harmful and hurtful to that young man and his family and also to the people who know about this.  Not only did this group of people damage such a wonderful fundraiser, but they exploited it and this young man past the point of redemption.   This was so premeditated, that it is sickening. Thankfully, through the internet and social media, we can make others aware of this heinous crime, and hopefully put a stop to any (if not all) of these atrocities that are happening in our back yards to our family, friends and neighbors. But more importantly put a stop to and defend those who cannot defend themselves. These criminals have hit the heart of all that we hold dear.  Disabled children are often picked on and bullied.  But these people obviously set this young man up for something that not only could make him extremely ill, but has also humiliated humanity and those who just want to help. The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons (the Commission), was established over a year ago on 15th August 2013 by Gazette 1823/42. The sole purpose of the Commission was to investigate and inquire into cases of disappearances in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka.

In March 2014, the Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) published a critique of the Commission proceedings and raised concerns about the existing legal and policy framework in terms of investigations and inquiries in Sri Lanka. In July 2014, CPA raised further concerns regarding the newly expanded mandate of the Commission, which extended inquiry into a wide range of issues including violations of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law. We fear that its primary focus of inquiring into the large number of unresolved cases of disappearances, which is essential for truth and justice in Sri Lanka, will be diluted. These concerns and fears stem from CPA’s observations and engagement at public sittings in the North and East.

More than a year into the Commission’s mandate, CPA highlights both the limited progress made by the Commission to date and the damaging effect of the expanded mandate. There is a huge difference between the rhetoric of the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and ground realities. This continues to constitute a damning indictment of the lack of political will on the part of GoSL to genuinely and effectively address post war grievances of affected communities.

வடக்கு, கிழக்கில் சிங்களவர்களை பெருவாரியாக கொண்டுவந்த குடியமர்த்தி, வடக்கு, கிழக்கு பகுதியில் ஒரு காலத்தில் தமிழர்கள் இருந்தார்கள் என்ற நிலை ஏற்படுத்துவதற்கான முயற்சிகள் நடப்பதாக வடமாகாண முதலமைச்சர் சி.வி.விக்னேஸ்வரன் குற்றஞ்சாட்டினார்.

வடமாகாண வர்த்தக வாணிப உள்ளூராட்சி அமைச்சின் ஏற்பாட்டில் முழங்காவில் கிராம அபிவிருத்தி சங்கத்தின் அனுசரணையின் கீழ் முழங்காவில் கிருஷ;ணா நகரில் அமைக்கப்பட்டவுள்ள கோழிக்குஞ்சு உற்பத்தி நிலையத்திற்கான அடிக்கல்லை வியாழக்கிழமை (11) நாட்டி உரையாற்றுகையிலேயே முதலமைச்சர் இவ்வாறு கூறினார்.

அங்கு அவர் தொடர்ந்து உரையாற்றியதாவது,  

இராணுவம் வட, கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் தொடர்ந்து இருபத்து ஐந்து வருடங்களுக்கேனும் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று ஆட்சியாளர்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கின்றார்கள். அந்த காலகட்டத்தில் சிங்களவரை பெருவாரியாக கொண்டுவந்து இங்கு குடியிருத்தி, இந்நாட்டில் பறங்கியர் ஒரு காலத்தில் இருந்தார்கள் என்று நாம் எவ்வாறு இப்பொழுது கூறுகின்றோமோ, அதேபோல் இங்கு தமிழ் பேசும் மக்கள் ஒருகாலத்தில் இருந்தார்கள் என்று கூறக்கூடிய ஒரு காலகட்டத்தை உருவாக்க நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. 

எனக்குக் கிடைத்த தகவலின் படி 2008ஆம் ஆண்டிலேயே அரசாங்கம் சார்ந்த உயர் அதிகாரி ஒருவர் 'போர் விரைவில் முடிந்து விடும். ஆனால் எமது இராணுவம் குறைந்தது 25 வருடங்களாவது வட, கிழக்கு மாகாணங்களில் நிலைநிறுத்தப்பட்டு தமிழ் பேசும் மக்களை தலையெடுக்கவிடாமல் பண்ண வேண்டும்' என்று கூறியுள்ளாராம். 

அவரின் குறிப்பிட்ட கூற்றுக்கு ஏற்பவே நடவடிக்கைகள் நடந்து வருவதாக தென்படுகிறது. அவர்களுக்கு ஒன்று மட்டும் கூற விரும்புகிறேன். 1988ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஒரு இந்திய இராணுவ உயரதிகாரி என் நண்பர் ஒருவருக்கு கூறினாராம் 'நாங்கள் இலங்கைக்கு வந்து விட்டோம். இனி 100 வருடங்களுக்கு இலங்கையை விட்டுப் போகமாட்டோம்' என்று.

ஆனால் அடுத்த வருடமே இந்தியாவின் பிரதமராக வீ.பீ.சிங் வந்தவுடன், இந்திய இராணுவம் வாபஸ் பெறப்பட்டது. இதனை Man proposes God disposes  என்பார்கள். அதாவது, மனிதன் முன்மொழிவான் இறைவன் முடித்து வைப்பான் என்பதின் அர்த்தத்தை நாங்கள் புரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். 

இறை நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர்கள் வட, கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தவர்கள். இஸ்லாமியரோ, கிறிஸ்தவரோ, இந்துக்களோ இறை நம்பிக்கையில் வாழ்பவர்கள். முடித்து வைப்பவன் இறைவன் என்பதில் சந்தேகமில்லாதவர்களே எம்மக்கள். 

ஈ.பி.டி.பி.யும் இராணுவத்தினரும் மக்களை அச்சுறுத்துகின்றனர்

வடமாகாண அமைச்சர் டெனீஸ்வரன்; தனக்கு ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட நிதியைக் கொண்டு பின்னடைந்துள்ள கிராமங்களுக்கு மக்கள் சார்பான திட்டங்களை முன்னெடுக்க ஆரம்பித்துள்ள நிலையில், இராணுவ கட்டுப்பாடுகளில் இருந்து எங்கே எம்மக்கள் விடுபட்டுப் போய் விடுவார்களோ என்ற பயத்தில் மக்கள் எமது நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு வராது தடுக்க பிரயத்தனங்களில் இராணுவமும் அதனைச் சார்ந்தோரும் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர்.

அதனால், எம்மக்களை எமது நிகழ்வுகளுக்கு வராது தடுக்க மக்களை அச்சுறுத்தி வருவதாக கேள்விப்படுகின்றேன். இதில் இராணுவத்தினர் மட்டுமன்றி ஈ.பி.டி.பி ஒட்டுகுழுவும் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளதை இணையத்தளம் ஊடாக இன்று காலை அறிந்து கொண்டேன். 

இராணுவத்தில் இருந்து சிலர் இங்கு வந்து படமெடுத்து கொண்டிருப்பதாக அறிகிறேன். ஏன் என்று எனக்கு புரியவில்லை. எமது பாதுகாப்புக்கா அல்லது மக்களை அச்சுறுத்துவதற்கா படம் எடுக்கின்றீர்கள்?. பாதுகாப்பென்றால் எங்கள் மக்களுக்கு தேவையான ஒரேயொரு பாதுகாப்பு இராணுவத்தினரிடம் இருந்து தான். 

நாங்கள் இராணுவத்தினரை எங்களை பாதுகாருங்கள் என்று கூறவில்லை. இராணுவம் இங்கு இருப்பதால் எம்மக்கள் தான் பாதுகாப்பின்றி பயத்திற்கு ஆளாகின்றார்கள். படம் எடுப்போர் அவ்வாறு செய்வதை உடனே நிறுத்த வேண்டும். இல்லை என்றால் எங்கள் இளைஞர் யுவதிகளை கொண்டு உங்களின் படங்களை நாம் எடுத்து தெற்கிலே பத்திரிகைகளில் விளம்பரம் செய்வோம். இவ்வாறு தான் இராணுவம் இங்கு படம் எடுக்கின்றார்கள் என்று சொல்லி வைப்போம். 

இதேபோல் தான், கடந்த 7ஆம் திகதி இலங்கைத் தமிழரசுக் கட்சியின் வருடாந்த மகாநாட்டிற்கு கனகராயன் குளம், நெடுங்கேணி, புதுக்குடியிருப்பு போன்ற இடங்களில் இருந்து வர எத்தணித்த எம்மக்கள் இராணுவத்தினரால் தடுத்து நிறுத்தப்பட்டனர். 

தொட்டிலையும் ஆட்டிவிட்டு குழந்தையையும் கிள்ளிவிடும் பணியில் அரசாங்கம் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றது. ஒரு புறம் எம்முள் இணக்கம் வேண்டும், நாம் சேர்ந்து பணியாற்ற வேண்டும் என்று ஊரறிய, உலகறிய, வாய் வழியாக அரசாங்கத்தவர்கள் கத்துகின்றார்கள். மறுபுறம் இராணுவ கட்டுப்பாட்டை கூட்டி மக்களை அச்சுறுத்தி அவர்களின் ஜனநாயக உரிமைகளை அவர்கள் பிரயோகிப்பதைத் தடுக்க முயல்கின்றார்கள். 

தமிழ் மக்கள் ஒற்றுமையாக இருக்கவேண்டும்

எமது தமிழ்ப் பேசும் மக்கள் தமது மத ரீதியான வேற்றுமைகளை மறந்து ஒருமித்து செயலாற்ற முன்வர வேண்டும். ஒன்றை நான் இந்த சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் கூறிவைக்கிறேன். மலையகத்தில் இருந்து வந்து, வன்னியில் குடியேறி இருக்கும் தமிழ் மக்கள், எமது சகோதர சகோதரிகள். 

அவர்களை இங்கு வாழ்ந்து வந்த சிலர் வேற்று மக்களாக பார்க்கின்றார்கள் என்றும் எமது அலுவலர்கள் சிலர் அவர்களைப் பாரபட்சத்துடன் நடத்த எத்தணிப்பதாகவும் எமக்கு புகார்கள் கிடைத்துள்ளன. 

இது நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும். எம்முள் வேற்றுமைகளை நாம் விரிவடையச் செய்தால் 25 வருடமல்ல 50 வருடங்களுக்கும் இராணுவத்தை வட, கிழக்கு மாகாணங்களில் இருந்து திருப்பி அனுப்ப முடியாது.
 
எம்மக்களிடையே கலாசார சீரழிவுகளை ஏற்படுத்தி, பாகுபாட்டை ஏற்படுத்தி மக்கள் ஒன்று சேராமல் தடுக்க சதிகள் நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. அதனை நாம் எமது ஒற்றுமையால் முறியடிக்க வேண்டும். 

அதற்கேற்றவாறுதான் மக்களுக்குப் பயன்தரும் வேலைத்திட்டங்களை, மக்களுக்கு வாழ்வாதாரங்களை வழங்கும் வேலைத்திட்டங்களை உருவாக்கி நடைமுறைப்படுத்தி வருகின்றோம். 

எந்தவித பாகுபாடுமின்றி இப்பேர்ப்பட்ட வேலைத்திட்டங்களில் எமது தமிழ் பேசும் மக்கள் அனைவரும் ஐக்கியப்படுத்தப்படுவார்கள். எல்லாவித தடைகளையும் நாம் தகர்த்தெறிந்து முன்னேறும் காலம் தற்பொழுது உதித்துள்ளது.

அரசியலுக்கு குழந்தைகள் வேண்டாம்

எங்களை இந்நிகழ்வுக்கு வரவேற்று அழைத்து வந்த பாண்டு வாத்தியக் குழுவைச் சேர்ந்த அந்த குழந்தைகளுக்கு எனது நன்றிகள் உரித்தாகுக. காலையில் இருந்து அவர்கள் இங்கு காத்து நின்றதாக அறிந்தேன். மனம் வேதனை அடைகின்றேன். கல்லூரிகளில், பாடசாலைகளில் நடைபெறும் உள் நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் இக்குழந்தைகளை ஈடுபடுத்தலாம். 

ஆனால் வெளியில் நடைபெறும் விழாக்களுக்கு அதுவும் அரசியல் சார்ந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு அவர்களை கூட்டி வருவது சரியென எனக்குப் படவில்லை. இந்தப் பழக்கத்தை நாங்கள் அடியோடு நிறுத்த வேண்டும். மேலும் இன்று படிக்க வேண்டிய நாள். அவர்களின் முழுநாளைய படிப்பு இதனால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது' என அவர் மேலும் தெரிவித்தார்.

Northern Province Wants Govt To Allow UN Investigation Team To Enter Sri Lanka

Northern Provincial Council has adopted a resolution calls upon the Government of Sri Lanka to cooperate with the UN and allow the UN’s OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka team to enter the country.

The resolution was tabled by the Council Member M.K. Shivajilingam and adopted by the Northern Provincial Council, Sri Lanka on September 10, 2014.

“This Council calls upon the Government of Sri Lanka to cooperate with the UN and allow the UN’s OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL) team to enter the country to perform its mandate of comprehensively investigating the alleged serious violations and abuses of human rights, and crimes.” the resolution said.

(Lanka-e-News- 09.Sep.2014, 11.00PM) The Elections Commissioner who woke up like Rip Van Winkle after a deep slumber had suddenly announced , because of the violence prevailing in Uva province , elections cannot be conducted in Uva , and it should be held a second time . However according to reports reaching Lanka e news inside division this stooge of the Rajapakses had been compelled by the Rajapakses to make this announcement based on secret reports of the State intelligence service.

The SIS chief DIG Chandra Wakishta had last week submitted a confidential report on the Uva elections to the government wherein he had stated , the government would not be able to poll 50 % votes in both Badulla and Moneragala districts , and the government will face severe debacles.

While Sashindra Rajapakse has incurred the displeasure and disenchantment of the people of Moneragala , there is also a conflict among the candidates of the UPFA with political heavyweights engaged in a tug- a -war , as a result ,it is impossible to poll even 50 % votes , the SIS report had revealed. In order to avert this trend , Wakishta had made three proposals to the government .

Following this report , the Elections Commissioner who was enjoying a deep slumber had woken up after making a tour of the Uva province . He said , if elections violence and elections law violations are to continue, two elections would become necessary in those two districts.

While making this announcement the Elections commissioner had convened a meeting tomorrow (10) at 3.00 p.m. summoning secretaries of all political parties and police bigwigs. It is the consensus of second in command chiefs of the elections commissioner’s office that the Elections commissioner in the midst of all these violence and violations is all along acting partially in favor of the Rajapakses because of his family relationship with Basil Rajapakse. These chiefs are absolutely opposed to the sordid and unscrupulous activities of the Elections Commissioner .

The same second in command chiefs of the elections commissioner’s office who are well aware of the situation and the facts are of the view that the decision of the elections commissioner to have two separate elections on two occasions for the two districts is not prompted by elections violence , but rather by the report furnished by the SIS that the government will not poll more than 50% votes, and therefore aimed at surmounting this impending stigmatic obstacle. They also raised a most perplexing but sensible question in the context of the insensible decision of the Elections commissioner ,the Rajapakses’ notorious lickspittle and spittoon . They questioned whether at the Presidential elections if elections violence rage in the 22 districts , is Mahinda Deshapriya the elections commissioner going to hold elections for 22 days in the 22 districts ?

These second in command chiefs of the elections commissioner’s office regretted that the elections commissioner has become a court jester for the Rajapakses casting aside his legitimate responsibilities and duties towards the people and voters .

While he has a number of courses of action to take against the violence unleashed against his own senior officers , he had been pushing his head under the soil like an ostrich and remaining blind to all these attacks while listening only to the Rajapakses.

இலங்கையின் பிரபல முதுபெரும் தொழிற்சங்கவாதியான தோழர் பாலா தம்பு (பாலேந்திரா தம்பு பிலிப்ஸ் – Phillips Bala Tampoe) தனது 92ஆவது வயதில் செப்டெம்பர் முதலாம் திகதியன்று மதியம் தனியார் மருத்துவமனையில் காலமானார். ஒரு தொழிற்சங்கவாதியாக மட்டுமன்றி ஒரு சிறந்த வழக்கறிஞரும் கூட. தனது சட்ட வல்லமையை தனது தொழிற்சங்க நடவடிக்கைகளுக்காகவே அர்ப்பணித்து வந்தவர். பல தொழிற்சங்க போராட்டங்களின் போது தொழிலாளர்களின் கோரிக்கைகளின் பக்கம் நின்று, கம்பனிகளுக்கு எதிராக வாதாடி, தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு நியாயம் தேடித்தந்தவர்.

1948இலிருந்து இலங்கை வர்த்தக ஊழியர் சங்கத்தின் (CMU – Ceylon Mercantile Union) செயலாளர் நாயகமாகத் திகழ்ந்த பாலா தம்பு மரணிக்கும் வரை சற்றும் சளைக்காது சுறுசுறுப்பாக இயங்கி வந்தவர். இந்த தொழிற்சங்கம் நாளடைவில் இலங்கை வர்த்தக தொழில்நுட்ப மற்றும் பொது தொழிலாளர் சங்கம் என்று பெயர் மாற்றப்பட்டது.

Basil avoids Japanese premier!

Economic development minister Basil Fernando avoided meeting Japanese prime minister Shinso Abe and leading Japanese entrepreneurs who had accompanied him on a 18 hour short visit to Sri Lanka from Sunday. That was because priorty had been given to president’s son Namal Rajapaksa, a senior minister of the government told Lanka News Web.

Cabinet ministers had not been invited to be introduced to the Japanese premier, and they had been told that since Mr. Abe was having a very tight schedule, there would be no such opportunity. The president’s office has told the cabinet ministers that the trip was a very short one, and asked them to continue with their election campaign in Uva.

However, the Japanese PM and the entrepreneurs had been taken to parliament and a meeting was held. According to parliamentary tradition, a special session of the House is held on the occasion of a visit by premier of a powerful country, but that was not the case here. Instead, he had been given only a tea party. That is a complete breach of parliamentary tradition, said the senior minister.

The Japanese entrepreneurs on the visit had entered into various trade agreements, and each and every agreement had been signed with the participation of MP Namal. According to government tradition, the economic development minister should be present on such occasions, but he has been electioneering in Uva at those times.
