Kumar David Writes "Pros and cons of a Postgrad University"
Sunday 09 September 2012

19-2Kumar-DavidThere have been newspaper reports that the two ministers in charge of education are preparing a cabinet paper proposing the establishment of a postgraduate university (PGU). This is premature; any such initiative must be preceded by an extended period of study by a suitable committee which will draft a green paper for public consultation, to be followed by a white paper, and only then should legislation be considered. I do admit that I am worried that the ministers will rush into things, the full impact of which they cannot grasp, and take steps that are harmful and irreversible. I am writing this piece to argue for a careful, consultative and measured approach.
Let us get some meat on the plate first; what is a postgraduate university? It is a university where enrolment will be for ordinary “taught Master’s” degrees (MA, MSc, LLM, MBA and similar), research Master’s (MPhil) which are thought of as about half to two thirds as onerous as a doctorate, and of course PhD research degrees. The other aspect of a PGU is that it is an intensely research active institution. So the blanket definition is that in a PGU, research predominates over teaching, while in these days of mass enrolment, teaching has to predominate over research in a conventional university though the old formula is that both are equally important.

Pros, cons and effects
Establishing a PGU will have a profound effect on the existing universities in terms of sharing of research funds (the cake in Lanka is very small), staff relocations, disbursement of research students and notions of elitism. Another important concern is that the PGU will not have adequate staff resources, unless it is enormous which it cannot be, to service Master’s programmes and an adequate complement of taught course that these days forms the foundation portion of a research degree. In olden times when ancients like me did PhDs, I well remember Professor Cory threw me into the lab, and said, “You must be that fellow, David, from Ceylon. That’s the lab, here is your desk, come see me in three years when you’ve written your thesis.” Well, not quite, but almost. These days there are lots of coursework and many foundation subjects to give candidates a broad-base in the domain before delving into a narrow thesis topic. The new way is better since today’s mass PhD is not a reward of an original contribution to knowledge but recognition of training in research methodology. I guess this is more aligned to the needs of the times.
The taught components will make the PGU dependent on staff expertise spread out in existing universities since it cannot include a wide range of expertise. Take communication and computing as a broad PhD field that the PGU wants to develop. The coursework component must provide, apart from three or four modules in advanced communication theory and computer networking, for subjects like photonics, microprocessor applications, advanced mathematics and statistics, software engineering, energy systems, design and industrial engineering. It is out of the question to expect a PGU in little Lanka to have in-house expertise to dish out what Harvard or Cambridge can ferret out from somewhere inside the university. Our PGU will have to draw upon other universities for this range of expertise.
This is not peculiar to technology. Take economics as another example. Say the PGU wants to develop macroeconomics as an area of excellence. The taught components will have to include economic history, classical economics, Marx, Austrian garbage, Walrus, Marshal, mathematical economics, Keynes-Sraffa-Minsky, the monetarists, trade, investment, business and international economics. On a Lankan scale it is not possible to get this collection of expertise within one roof. However if one trawls across the system one may find a goodly portion of it scattered around. My point from both the technical and economics examples is this; the PGU and the existing universities must be in close symbiosis. It is not that this cannot be done but that it has to be achieved by careful planning (teaching schedules, payment, availability, travelling) and must not be prematurely rushed by cabinet ministers who have little background in what they are doing.

Methodical planning essential
I only took one topic to illustrate that methodical planning is essential. Other obvious matters that spring to mind are concerns such as, will the setting up of a PGU result in existing universities being starved of research students and research funds; how will areas of expertise be identified and focussed, avoiding expensive duplication; will existing universities be turned into pure teaching factories and if so what will be the character of the graduate output; how will staff exchanges and short term assignments be arranged. None of these are insurmountable obstacles and I am not in principle opposed to, or at this stage supportive of a PGU. My case is for a careful, consultative and measured approach.
Staff exchanges and staff allocations between the PGU and the existing universities must be so arranged that not even a shred of elitism is allowed to raise its head. In no way must the notion be allowed to gain ground that research is superior to excellence in teaching. This is a hard battle to win in a class and status blinkered oriental society!
The casual reader would be justified if he suspected that I was an excellent teacher but have little research under my belt; unfortunately this is not the case. My career has been more research than teaching oriented and I have supervised and graduated over a score of PhDs/MPhils, written stacks of papers in coveted journals and even hoodwinked the awardees into letting me have an IEEE Fellowship, which is said to be for jilmart contributions to knowledge. Enough of that, the point is that I speak as one from the research active rather than the teaching excellence side of the academic stables in advocating a measured approach to the PGU concept. So trust me, I have no axe to grind.
Let knowledgeable persons, not uninformed ministers and their immediate bureaucratic stooges, meet in committee and prepare a green paper. Let the university community and the nation at large comment and be consulted extensively; let us have a white paper next. Let not any decision be rushed through in less than two years.

Your Excellency,
Reconciliation, human rights and humanitarian concerns in the Mannar Diocese
(Mannar and Vavuniya districts)
People in the Mannar diocese have been expecting better life in many aspects since the end of the war and there are expectations of a reconciliation process leading towards sustainable peace with justice.
As Church leaders, we have been trying to work with other religious leaders, civil society, government officials, to address key issues facing the people in order to achieve a sustainable peace and reconciliation.
It is in this spirit that together with other civil groups in Mannar, I took the lead to request the LLRC to hold hearings in Mannar, to which they responded positively. The Diocese of Mannar made a detailed presentation to the LLRC, attaching annexes with additional and specific information and presenting specific recommendations.
We continue to face serious human and humanitarian problems blocking our journey towards winning the hearts and minds of people in favor of sustainable peace and reconciliation.
Hence, I’m writing to bring some such areas of concern to Your Excellency, in the hope that Your Excellency will take the needed action. These areas of concern are common to all the Districts both in the North and the East of Sri Lanka.
I look forward to a favorable and speedy response and also offer my prayers and cooperation in resolving these matters.
Sincerely yours,
Bishop of Mannar
Reconciliation, human rights and humanitarian concerns in the Mannar Diocese

  1. The Tamil national question, nationhood, provincial elections: The unresolved national question has been remaining as a deep wound in the body of our country and all the sad and tragic events that had been taking place in the history of our dear motherland from the year 1956 on are only the symptoms of this unattended wound due to lack of firm will on the part of the parties concerned.. Thus, the political solution is the permanent answer to all these evils. Thus, in the long term, we yearn for a resolution to the ethnic conflict through power sharing that recognizes the nationhood of Tamil people within the framework of one country. In principle, we support elections, but are wary that Provincial Council elections for the East and also the North fall short of our expectations, particularly if the focus is on the 13th Amendment and the North and East continue to be separated.

District Judge Aravinda Perera and his brother accused of running bad debt

Saturday, 08 September 2012
Additional District Judge for Colombo Aravinda Perera has been listed as a bad creditor in the CRIB for failing to make payments on loans and credit cards taken by him from several banks and financial institutions.
It is learnt that he has to pay close to Rs. 20 million to banks and financial institutions for loans and other debt acquired by him. He had taken a Rs. 5 million personal loan from the Bank of Ceylon and had avoided making payment for over 1,000 days. Therefore, he now has to pay Rs. 9.6 million.
He had taken another Rs. 1 million loan from the Bank of Ceylon (Kurunegala branch) and had failed to make the re-payment of Rs. 630,000 for 645 days. He had also taken a Rs. 2.1 million from the People’s Bank and had failed to pay Rs. 1.9 million in 632 days.
He has to pay Rs. 1.3 million for a loan of Rs. 1.8 million taken from the NDB Bank in Chilaw. He had to make another payment of Rs. 4.7 million to the Bank of Ceylon for failing to repay a loan of Rs. 3.5 million.
He also has to pay Rs. 273,000 for a Commercial Bank credit card, which has not made in 270 days. His credit limit on the card is Rs. 200,000.
Several banks and financial institutions are now looking at filing legal action against him to recover the monies or to write them off.
Meanwhile, his brother, who served for a while as a state advocate, Pinsith Perera has taken Rs. 200 million by giving a forged deed for a land in Pasikudah to one of the leading members in the stock market mafia and head of the Triad Company, Dilith Jayaweera.
Pinsith Perera has taken the Rs. 200 million by serving as the lawyer and notary public in the transaction and has avoided repaying the monies to Jayaweera after the land was acquired by the state.
Jayaweera is now using his political powers to get his money back from Pinsith.
District Judge Aravinda Perera and advocate Pinsith Perera are the sons of the late Siri Perera, who was a well known lawyer and a member of the Kalutara Bar Association.
The senior lawyer from the Kalutara Bar Association who gave us the information said that Aravinda Perera is facing this situation since he tried to engage in business without limiting his work to the judiciary. However, he added that although he had run bad debt, he still respected Aravinda Perera since he had not misused his legal profession to earn money.

Quiz Sushma to know Douglas whereabouts

SATURDAY, 08 SEPTEMBER 2012

A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court finding fault with the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj’s meeting with  Lankan minister Douglas Devanantha, an absconding accused in criminal cases.

Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, before whom the petition from A Irulandi of Meenambalpuram in Madurai came up for hearing on Friday, ordered notice to the State Home Secretary and the DGP, returnable in eight weeks. The petitioner contended that Devananda had been involved in a murder case and few other criminal cases and he was absconding. A lower court concerned had issued a proclamation order also. While so, a team led by Sushma met him during her visit to Sri Lanka on April 16 this year. If Sushma and her team were questioned,

the whereabouts of Douglas would come to light and the police could bring him to India to face the pending trials, the petitioner contended. In this connection, he had sent a representation on April 24, the petitioner said and prayed for a direction to officials concerned to dispose of his representation.(iBNlive)
President lies about stopping farmers’ loans
Saturday, 08 September 2012

It has now been revealed that the President’s statement that repayment of loans taken by farmers for cultivation has been stopped due to the destruction of paddy land by the drought is yet another lie.
The government stated that a scheme had been initiated to provide relief to farmers affected by the droughts in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts. However, it is revealed that the statement was made targeting the provincial council election and that farmers in these areas have not received any form of relief.
Over 235,000 farmers have applied for compensation from the Agrarian Services Department. Farmers believe that the President’s statement is a lie since the banks have deducted the monies taken for loans through the farmers’ insurance scheme that was presented by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena at the Pulathisi Mandapaya in Polonnaruwa.
Minister Sirisena had given Rs. 15 million as insurance compensation for 700 farmers in Polonnaruwa at the event. Farmers say that their monies have been deducted by the banks when they had tried to cash the compensation provided to them. When the farmers had reminded the manager of the respective bank about the assurance given by the President, the bank manager had said the bank had not received the gazette notification issuing the relevant directive. Therefore, the bank has said the loan installment would be deducted.
Although Minister Sirisena had reprimanded the bank officials for deducting the loan installments, the banks have continued to take the installments.
The Minister has told some of friends that he was doubtful whether the statement made by the President about stopping the installments of bank loans taken by farmers was aimed at putting him in difficulty.
Assange case: Sweden's shame in violating human rights

Even in the past, Sweden had "collaborated with its Washington allies" to violate human rights and international law.

The Swedish government refused Ecuador's offer to interview Assange at its London embassy [EPA]

It was like a scene from a Hollywood movie, where the kidnapper walks up from behind, with a gun protruding from his trench coat pocket. "Keep walking, and don't say anything," he warns.
Such was the UK government's threat two weeks ago to Ecuador, that British police could invade the Ecuadorian embassy if necessary to arrest WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange. But Ecuador's foreign minister didn't keep walking, and said something, to the great embarrassment of the UK Foreign Office. The Foreign Office tried to say it wasn’t a threat - although it was now available to the world in writing - and then took it back.
But the unprecedented threat to violate the Vienna convention that protects diplomatic missions brought serious criticism from the Union of South American Nations, and then - despite being watered down by Washington - another rebuke from the Organisation of American States.
The UK's threat also made it clear that this case was not about questioning Julian Assange regarding a possible criminal case in Sweden. Few could believe that the UK government would have resorted to such extreme and illegal measures if this were just a matter of extraditing a foreign citizen to a foreign country where he is not even charged with a crime.
Sweden's role in Assange case
But what about Sweden's role in this sordid affair? Most obviously, Sweden has had the opportunity to interview Assange in the UK, but has repeatedly refused to do so. The Swedish government also refused Ecuador's offer to interview Assange at its London embassy. As in the past, no justification was offered.
The Swedish government also refused to negotiate with Ecuador for an extradition under which Assange would go to Sweden but not be subject to extradition to the US. This would be very easy for Sweden (or the UK, for that matter) to arrange. Once again, the Swedish government offered no reason for its refusal to consider this obvious solution to the diplomatic impasse.
Contrary to much press commentary, there is no need for conspiracy theories here to draw the logical conclusion. If the Swedish government really wanted to pursue the investigation of sexual offence allegations against Assange, they could do so. But instead, they are deliberately abandoning the criminal investigation - which is getting older and more difficult to pursue - for other reasons.
 Assange fears extradition to US
This also casts serious doubt on all the people who have opposed Assange's asylum on the grounds that they care about the two women who have accused Assange. (It is worth noting that neither of the two women accused Assange of rape, although that is one of the allegations that has been spread throughout the media and the world). Anyone who was really concerned about pursuing this case would aim their fire at the Swedish prosecutor, and at least ask her why she has abandoned the investigation.
This includes the lawyer representing the plaintiffs, Claes Borgstrom, who was reportedly instrumental in getting the third prosecutor (Marianne Ny) to go after Assange. (The previous prosecutor assigned to the case had dropped it because the evidence is so weak). Borgstrom has been in the media defending the United States and its allies, rather than his clients, asserting that Assange "must know" that the case "has nothing to do with WikiLeaks".
Attack on Freedom of expression
But Borgstrom must know that there is a wealth of evidence that the US is very much interested in punishing Assange, and it keeps growing: on August 18, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australia's foreign service was aware that US authorities had been pursuing Assange for at least 18 months. And on August 24, Craig Murray, a former UK ambassador and 20-year career diplomat there, reported that his colleagues at the UK foreign office knew better than to make the unprecedented threat of invading Ecuador's embassy, but did so under pressure from Washington.
Like many European countries, including of course the UK, Sweden's foreign policy is closely allied with that of the US government. This is not the first time that Sweden has collaborated with its Washington allies to violate human rights and international law. In 2001, the Swedish government turned over two Egyptians to the CIA so that they could be sent to Egypt, where they were tortured.
Sweden's action brought condemnation from the UN and the government was forced to pay damages to the victims; both were later cleared of any wrongdoing. Polls showed that Swedes considered this crime the worst political scandal in their country in 20 years.
Sweden is a highly developed social democracy that has many guarantees of civil rights and liberties to its citizens. The people of Sweden should not allow their government to continue to disgrace itself in another international governmental crime - this one a pernicious attack on freedom of expression - simply because Washington wants them to do so.

Keheliya asks for actresses to telecast teledramas

Saturday, 08 September 2012
Sources from the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) say that teledramas that have been rejected by the selection board to be telecast on the national television channel are being forced on the Corporation through political pressure.
The new SLRC Chairman, Mohan Samaranayake had not allowed any political interference in the affairs of the Corporation when Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was receiving medical treatment in Australia after falling from a hotel balcony. However, political interference has commenced once again after Keheliya’s return.
It is the working director appointed to SLRC by the Minister who carried out his work. Sources say that the teledrama that is being telecast on Friday nights called “Valmathuwo” is a teledrama that had been forced on the SLRC.
The selection committee had rejected the teledrama due to the blurry images in it. However, Keheliya had ordered that the teledrama be telecasted. The producer of the teledrama had informed the selection committee that the blurry images were part of its visual effects. Nevertheless, an SLRC producer told us that the visual effect should be in relation to the theme of the story and should not be throughout the teledrama.
The SLRC producer said that Keheliya received physical favors from actresses and collected Rs. 1 million from producers to telecast a teledrama on the state television channel.
The producer added that it was a known secret at the Corporation that apart from the working director, well known actresses, Janaki Wijeratne and Nadeesha Hemamali coordinated affairs for the Minister.

TamilNetRajapaksa’s ministers threaten Tamil voters in East

   [TamilNet, Saturday, 08 September 2012, 11:37 GMT]
A group of more than ten ministers of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) currently staying in Trincomalee district on the eve of election to the Eastern Provincial Council were reportedly engaged in intimidating voters to vote for their candidates and the Tamil village level officers are intimidated for not co-operating with them in this regard, civil sources in Trincomalee said Saturday. In the meantime, participation in the provincial elections on Saturday was as low as 35% in the city and 40% in remote areas in the early hours of the day. However, reports from remote areas indicated active participation later in the day. In Ampaa’rai district, the attendance was at 60%. In Batticaloa district, 62% of the votes were polled, the officials said. Muslim voters in Ee’raavoor, Kaaththaankudi and Vaazhaich-cheanai divisions actively participated, news sources in East said.

The SL ministers escorted by UPFA gangs have been threatening the village level officers called GS officers to get signatures from Tamil voters that they would vote for the ruling party.

One such incident took place at Linkanakar, a suburb in Trincomalee city where Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senarathne had threatened a GS officer to get signatures from the Tamil residents of the area. The village officer was intimidated and abused by SL Minister Rajitha Senarathne when he refused to carry out his order in the presence of residents of Linkanakar.

SL Minister Rajitha Senarathne had promised 70 Tamil families with electricity supply to their homes soon. Mr Senarathne had warned them that they would repent later if they fail to vote for the ruling UPFA.

Tamil voters were also further warned by the Colombo minister to extend their support equally to all political parties contesting PC election and not only to Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

The village officer who was abused and threatened by the SL Minister has made a complaint to the Trincomalee Divisional Secretary that he is unable to return to Linkanakar to perform official duties.

Trincomalee DS who is a Tamil had brought the incident to the notice of the Sri Lankan Government Agent of Trincomale district who is a retired Major General of the Sri Lanka Army.

The SLGA had told the DS that he would look into the matter after the election is over, news sources said.

Sri Lanka provincial polls hit by low turn outSeptember 08, 2012

Business StandardA low voter turn out today marked Sri Lanka's provincial council polls, seen as a test of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's popularity in the wake of international pressure over alleged human rights violations by the army during the final stages of the war with the LTTE.
Election monitoring groups said a low voter turn out was witnessed when polls opened at 7 am (local time).
Polls close at 4 pm (local time).
Three of the 9 provinces are going for mid-term polls in the north central, eastern and south western (Sabaragamuva) provinces.

The election secretariat and monitoring groups said over 40 complaints of election wrong doings had been recorded by noon (local time). All related to illegal propaganda work, transporting of voters and intimidation of voters.
By mid day the Ampara district in the eastern province had recorded the highest turn out of 45 per cent.
Some 3.3 million voters are eligible to vote in the election where ruling United People's Freedom Alliamce (UPFA) is expected to retain the control of the three councils.

Kudankulam: Sri Lankans should learn to run and swim

September 6, 2012
article_image

Koodankulam Nuclear Plant –

The potential mind boggling Fukushima, Chernobyl type disaster, from India’s Kudankulam nuclear power plant, has begun to count down. Currently nuclear fuel (supplied by US & France) is being fed in to the plant, built by the Russians, at the southern tip of India, just 220 KM from Kalpitiya.

But don’t panic. Sri Lanka’s Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) will be setting up Nuclear Early warning system in Navy camps in, Kalpitiya, Delft Islands and KKS. Later such detectors will be installed in Colombo. Galle, Trincomalee and Kandy – covering almost the entire Island. According to AEA, the alarm would be raised if the radiation from Kudankulam nuclear reactor, increase by three fold in Sri Lanka. My domestic help (a victim of 2004 Tsunami) asked me whether we should run and jump in to the sea, if the alarm is raised? I replied, the AEA plans to evacuate the people or advise them what to do (see Daily Mirror of July 21-2012). The setting up of the early warning system and plans to evacuate people is by itself an admission that a nuclear radiation disaster affecting the entire Island could happen anytime after the Kudankulam plant is commissioned. My domestic help’s second question was whether the authorities were planning to evacuate all of us and take us to Swaziland?

The Indian P.M. Dr. Manmohan Singh sent a letter in August 2012, to the Indian Dept of Nuclear Energy, asking the question "who would be liable in the event of a mishap" at the Kudankulam reactor. He added, Russia had asked for a waiver from liability and if the waiver is given to Russia, both US and France would ask for a waiver. Thus Indian PM has acknowledged that a ‘mishap’ could happen, causing harm to people in India. Could anyone believe that our authorities – Ministry of Environment, External Affairs Ministry, Presidential Secretariat, AEA – have so far not even dreamt of raising that vital question from India. Instead we are installing early warning systems. Is it that the powerful multi-national corporations lobbying for highly profitable nuclear reactor installations and supply of nuclear fuel, transport, etc are having a hand in the deafening silence? Yet a planeload of our guardians of the environment flew in a specially chartered plane singing all the way to Rio de Janeiro to save the planet!

Specially built tankers carrying nuclear fuel had reached Kudankulam. Didn’t they go throughout territorial waters without Sri Lanka’s permission as required according to International conventions? Who cares in Sri Lanka?

When I proposed to a group of concerned intellectuals to organize a forum, seminar or a public discussion and debate on this issue, I was asked "Why didn’t our authorities use our sovereign right to raise objections to the high-handed action of India?

Our media performed their duty in enlightening the public on the life threatening disaster, which could happen due to natural (earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons) technical (like Chernobyl) or even a terrorist attack. But nothing can wake up our guardians of the environment. They are sleeping like the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park.

After installing early warning systems, authorities may be advised to acquire a fleet of passenger vessels to take people (from KKS to Galle, Colombo to Kandy and Kalpitiya to Trinco) to the South Pacific Islands Vanuatu, Nauru etc where the External Affairs Ministry wants to establish embassies!

Oh, this Stunning Moment-Truth and Love to the Nth Power
Sep-07-2012
We are at a stunning moment in human history. Gandhi gave us the direction.
Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi
http://www.salem-news.com/graphics/snheader.jpg(BATON ROUGE, LA) - People talk about this time as a period of great awakening, a spiritual shift for humanity that will change everything, if we can only achieve it. What does that mean? What is supposed to shift in us? Perhaps Gandhi comes closest to pointing us toward our awakening.
We know Gandhi politically - he's the guy who got the British Empire to let go of imperialist rule in India, and did so without weapons or even anger. He ends up being something of a miracle to us, someone apart, but when we look closely, he is what we not only can be but must be ourselves in order to save the world and ourselves. He used ahimsa, We must as well.

Ahimsa - truth and love

Let us not think of either in some light way. Gandhi's exposure of the truth of British brutality stripped away all claim to their being a civilizing contribution to India, leaving the world to see their whip hand of slavery and their ravaging of the country's economy for their own profit. The British could not continue once that was so patently obvious. And Gandhi's love was not some romanticized movie version but the deepest spiritual effort to deal with the murderous British at only the highest moral level, no matter what they did, and in doing so India itself learned the force of love and became unified through its own decency and became morally stronger, throughout the struggle. The country was ultimately ennobled, and pulled back from hatred and rage.
Gandhi was successful against massive force and impossible odds and without weapons, yet we have not followed his example. Many of us are steeped in hatred of Monsanto or the Koch brothers or the Rockefellers and other bankers or Obama or Romney, falling into just the divisions among ourselves that Gandhi said were one of the four pillars of empire. And yet to make the shift that is needed to a truly better world for everyone, we must not only follow what Gandhi did but go beyond him. What would "following yet going beyond Gandhi" look like?

Truth

Gandhi revealed the truth of British brutality. We must go further. It is not enough to acknowledge and broadcast that our own government is responsible for 9/11, for heinous political acts around the world, for setting up food shortages now, for allowing Monsanto and others to impose deadly GMOs on our land, our animals and us, and for so much more, etc.
So, what, you might ask, goes further than such revelations?
We are only listing one crime after another against us and humanity but we have yet say aloud the underlying truth - we are dealing with psychopaths. It is time to speak of literal and intentional evil.
"Political Ponerology presents the subject in a radically different way from other texts about psychopathy, suggesting that the influence of psychopaths and other deviants isn't just one of many influences working on society …. When you understand the true nature of that influence, that it is conscienceless, emotionless, selfish, cold and calculating, and devoid of any moral or ethical standards, you are horrified, but at the same time everything suddenly begins to makes sense. ....
"When you come to understand that the reins of political and economic power are in the hands of people who have no conscience, who have no capacity for empathy, it opens up a completely new way of looking at what we call "evil". Evil is no longer only a moral issue; it can now be analyzed and understood scientifically."  http://www.sott.net/articles/show/148141-The-Trick-of-the-Psychopath-s-Trade-Make-Us-Believe-that-Evil-Comes-from-Others
In not saying that those in power are psychopaths, not actually human in that they lack conscience and feelings, we  have not yet exposed the full truth.  It took merciless psychopaths to plan and carry out 9/11, intentionally killing thousands, intentionally terrifying the world, then blaming Muslims for their own terrorism, in order to start a war and take over Iraq rich oil fields, and to set up laws here that remove our most basic rights.  They were using a false flag attack on the US, as the Nazis did in setting fire to the Reichstag, and for the same reason - to use terror to take control.  http://www.wanttoknow.info/falseflag  But we have only pointed to "what" they are doing, not to them and what is wrong with them.  It is time to say that these are literal psychopaths, who have  murdered and tortured all over the world to take power, and in our good name, and are now deconstructing every aspect of our country.  Project Daylily is but one example of the depth of their depravity using vaccines against our own military and against hapless prisoners http://www.projectdaylily.com/ but they are responsible for colluding in hiding the on-going maiming and murders of children with vaccines while knowing the hazards http://childhealthsafety.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/government-experts-cover-up-vaccine-hazards/ , even creating the fiction of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome when in fact it is the vaccines which are killing infants http://thinktwice.com/sids.htm.  To hide Bill Gates causing 47,500 cases of polio paralysis in India, the WHO, funded by him, merely files the destruction of children's lives under the name "non-polio paralysis" and declares Gate's great success in India.  His synthetic vaccines are killing twice the number as would have died from polio.
They are sickening and killing in huge numbers on purpose, and calling it "health" and themselves "humanitarians" or "public health" experts. The truth is that they are not making mistakes. This is not an error. They are aware of what they are doing. The truth is they are insane, depraved psychopaths. That is the truth that must be told.
"Psychopaths are capable of plotting out the genocide of a people, such as the Palestinians; people of consc, ience are not. One person may be killed in a heated argument. Many thousands can die from cold calculation. .... Normal people can commit acts of violence while in states of extreme emotional arousal, but psychopaths cold-bloodedly select their victims for revenge or retribution or to achieve some end. That is to say that psychopathic violence is instrumental, a means to an end, predatory."  http://www.sott.net/articles/show/148141-The-Trick-of-the-Psychopath-s-Trade-Make-Us-Believe-that-Evil-Comes-from-Others
For us to make the internal and spiritual shift necessary to save our world, we must be able to withstand knowing the truth and must speak it openly. Profound exposure of who they really are must pervade everything.
"The simplest, clearest and truest portrait of the psychopath is given in the titles of three seminal works on the subject: Without Conscience by Robert Hare, The Mask of Sanity by Hervey Cleckley, and Snakes in Suits by Hare and Paul Babiak. A psychopath is exactly that: conscienceless. The most important thing to remember is that this is hidden from view behind a mask of normality that is often so convincing that even experts are deceived and, as a result, they become the Snakes in Suits that control our world.
"In contradiction to the ideals of normal people, psychopaths feel breaking promises and agreements is normal behavior. Not only do they covet possessions and power and feel they have the right to them just because they exist and can take them, but they gain special pleasure in usurping and taking from others; what they can plagiarize, swindle, and extort are fruits far sweeter than those they can earn through honest labor. They also learn very early how their personalities can have traumatizing effects on the personalities of non-psychopaths, and how to take advantage of this root of terror for purposes of achieving their goals.
"So now imagine how human beings who are totally in the dark about this can be deceived and manipulated by these individuals if they were in power in different countries, pretending to be loyal to the local populations while at the same time playing up obvious and easily discernable physical differences between groups (such as race, skin colour, religion, etc). Psychologically normal humans would be set against one another on the basis of unimportant differences while the deviants in power, with a fundamental difference from the rest of us, a lack of conscience, an inability to feel for another human being, reaped the benefits and pulled the strings." http://www.sott.net/articles/show/148141-The-Trick-of-the-Psychopath-s-Trade-Make-Us-Believe-that-Evil-Comes-from-Others
Until we recognize the truth of their psychopathology - of those in power, who control the media, who run the industries seizing everything - we will continue to fall into reacting in ways that have been pre-arranged, fighting each other over sham political differences, hating, fearing.  For once in office, their campaign words become meaningless.  We must be able to recognize the manipulations, their hidden stoking of violence, the strings being pulled to try to set us against each other.
Gandhi said "Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as theblackest. the blackest deed committed by the British was the removal of arms from an entire people."
Yet that is what those in power are seeking and appear to be murdering innocent people to try to achieve it.  http://www.westernjournalism.com/was-colorado-shooting-staged-by-the-government/
Until we can see and say straight out that Obama is a pathological liar who hasn't just failed to keep promises but that his words were meant to deceive, we don't cut to the heart of what is occurring, and so do not see that Romney only appears less grotesque now because his lies haven't been revealed yet.  We can see the manipulations once we recognize the entire political drama is written and directed by psychopaths who are putting people of both parties into office to do their bidding.
We are faced with horrifying evil and yet have been responding piecemeal and superficially.  That Monsanto's directors have engineered the take over of our government, the planting of crops that are actually bioweapons http://www.salem-news.com/articles/may282011/gmo-not-food-cs.phpsickening and sterilizing plants, animals and humans, and are now push to use their infamous chemical weapon, Agent Orange, on crops here, are not simply bad or wrong or unjust, but is all evidence of their severe psychopathology.  So, this is not some business plan that happens to include horrible products, but an intended plan to do horrible things to us and life on earth.  When we recognize they are psychopaths, we see in an instant that we are facing an undeclared but literal war against us and a threat to our very survival, by a company that got rich on weapons of war and is connected to those who caused WWII.  http://rense.com/general7/gw.htm
"The U.S. lead prosecutor in the Nuremberg War Criminal Tribunal against the IG Farben anticipated this development when he said, "These IG Farben criminals, not the lunatic Nazi fanatics, are the main war criminals. If the guilt of these criminals is not brought to light and if they are not punished, they will represent a much greater threat to the future peace of the world than Hitler if he were still alive." "  http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/PHARMACEUTICAL_BUSINESS/history_of_the_pharmaceutical_industry.htm
Those harming the world are pathological mad men.  That is what must be faced and said.  Once said and focused on, we have a chance to isolate them from civil society, for investors to drop away, for hangers on to to back away and even whistle blow, for people of conscience to wake up fully and come together across all the phony political divides the psychopaths have created, to protect their children.
Truth at a depth that Gandhi did not fully go, is ready to be told.  And only that truth can finally free us all from the insanity we are living in.
"Is this to suggest that the modern pathocrats, operating in today's so-called 'information society' are no different than the supporters of Hitler? Except that they are more dangerous because they have more sophisticated tools and are able to use the various means of communication in a more conscious way?
".... That sums it up very well.   ....
"Without the ability to empathize with others, these people cannot feel that suffering, any more than a cat feels the suffering of a mouse when it toys with it prior to killing it. Bush can order thousands of American troops into Iraq or Afghanistan where they will be killed or permanently maimed, and where they will kill thousands and destroy an entire country, can sanction the torturing of prisoners, can support the actions of Israel in the Occupied territories or Lebanon, and none of the suffering he is causing is real to him. There is no hardware in these people that can process these emotions."  http://www.sott.net/articles/show/148141-The-Trick-of-the-Psychopath-s-Trade-Make-Us-Believe-that-Evil-Comes-from-Others
But the truth is not a door into hatred, though it is where we have so often gone and in doing so, gone wrong. Instead, we are left with the reality that Gandhi bound truth with love. Gandhi's ahimsa asks tremendous depth of morality from us, yet isn't profound, courageous morality what has been lacking?

Love

Which brings us to the other part of ahimsa - love. Gandhi used what he called soul force to effect change. Quantum physics would agree but can make clear now it is an actual force, not just a moral one. Gandhi couldn't know then, that our loving intent, when unified, increases exponentially, or that it is stronger than a nuclear explosion. That being the case, we have more than enough power to change our world. We are already affecting it but unwittingly and not as we need. If we are to bring peace and have everyone dining on organic food, we need to understand what our hearts can do and begin coming together in mass numbers to get it done.
Gandhi spoke of soul force and this is what it looked like.
It is already beginning again.

When we see the following photo from Wake Up, London, of so many people meditating, how many of us realize they are actually influencing the electromagnetic field of the earth?  Or that the energy they are generating is good for each of us, for the earth's health, for peace.?  Such peacefulness and unified consciousness is not good news for psychopaths who require chaos, including a chaotic magnetic field, to operate, just as diseases thrive on pollution.   With enough loving consciousness, they, too, can be affected.
http://www.wakingtimes.com/2012/08/09/manipulating-our-electromagnetic-field-for-better-or-for-worse/
So, when we see a photo of so many people sitting peacefully together, focusing their conscious intent, we are looking at tremendous power being generated, which is invisibly affecting good in the world. We have been told that in finding peace inside ourselves, we create peace.

“In true love, you attain freedom.”
― Thich Nhat Hanh
Quantum physics is now explaining the reality of it.  And people globally are coming together, in person, and now even from home, to multiply the effects of their own internal peace and help save our world.
More and more of us are starting to get it that we have a great miracle at hand.  Love is 5000 times stronger than anger or resentment or fear, http://www.wakingtimes.com/2012/07/31/you-are-stronger-than-corporations-or-bankers-when-will-you-use-your-power/ and is affecting the world around us and each other.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAvzsjcBtx8  And we affect it for kilometers beyond our bodies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmMNlmn1DPc
And when we act with focused intent along with others, what we can do is increased exponentially.  http://www.earthwisdomfoundation.net/Law_of_Ceremony.html , to a degree that is greater than the power of a nuclear explosion.
This miracle is completely in our favor for the massive power rests in love.

We have an immense shift to make to save ourselves and our world.  Gandhi was right that truth and love are the driving forces.  Truth  can expose and thus weaken and dispel evil and love can create a unified "field" so that goodness which normal people experience, can come flooding in.
We are at a stunning moment in human history.  Gandhi gave us the direction.  Deep truth and immense, exponentially powerful love, can carry us through.
