When people’s struggle campaign National Organizer Ajith Kumara M P was travelling to take part in the protest , a group in civil attire with the security of the Army and police had attacked him , causing severe damage to his vehicle. When the police who were at the venue were requested to intervene to stop this violence and attack , they have replied that they have no powers to stop it.
When he was on his way to join the protest that this violence and obstruction have been caused. As he was entering the Jaffna Town , an Army group had stopped his vehicle and tried to do a search . Ajith Kumara had then pointed out to them , a vehicle in which an M P is traveling cannot be searched , and if that is necessary , it is only the police who can do it. They have then stated that they have an order from the court to do the search. However when he insisted that that order be shown , it became apparent that they did not have such an order. When Ajith Kumara spoke on the phone to the DIG of the Jaffna area and explained the dire situation , the DIG had stated he had not given any such orders. Finally , an Army officer had admitted that he was following search orders received from the top.
Later , the police had tried to disrupt the peaceful protests staged in the Jaffna Town. Irrespective of these obstructions of the police , from the picture herein , it is evident more police officers were deployed at the scene than the protestors.
