2,500 Fraud DPL Passports

Over 2,500 diplomatic passports issued by virtue of political patronage by the previous regime to ineligible persons will be annulled shortly. The issue of these diplomatic passports, which had been made arbitrarily and haphazardly during
the previous regime, had come up for discussion at Wednesday's Cabinet meeting.
Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera has said that there were as much as 2,500 diplomatic passports issued during the previous regime in a small country such as Sri Lanka, which was far in excess of the number of diplomatic passports issued in a country such as the United States!
It was then that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe directed Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera to compile a list of such persons who had been issued diplomatic passports and to annul those which had been issued to non – eligible persons.
